JOB POSITIONS SUPERVISED: NonePOSITION REPORTS TO: Utility Maintenance SupervisorBLS COMPARABLE: 47-2051, Cement Masons & Concrete Finishers LEADERSHIP: Provides co-worker leadership to others through motivation, team building, and provision of feedback. In accordance with 49 CFR 391.53, information regarding previous employers may be used for the purpose of investigating the applicant’s safety performance history within the previous three years. This includes general employment, accident, and drug/alcohol information.In accordance with 49 CFR 391.23, a Motor Vehicle Report covering the previous three years will be obtained for the purpose of investigating the applicant’s driving history.As a CDL driver, the employee will be required to comply with all provisions of DOT Regulation 49 CFR Parts 40 and 382, including random drug and alcohol testing.Possession of a valid Oklahoma Class B CDL with an acceptable driving record. Must be 21 years of age. POSITION PURPOSE: To ensure the safety and quality of transportation for City of Enid residents through the installation and preventative corrective maintenance of arterial, residential, and commercial streets and roadway. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES Apply hardening and sealing compounds to cure surface of concrete, and waterproof or restore surface. Apply muriatic acid to clean surface, and rinse with water. Check the forms that hold the concrete to see that they are properly constructed. Chip, scrape, and grind high spots, ridges, and rough projections to finish concrete, using pneumatic chisels, power grinders, or hand tools. Drag water hose in order to wet concrete during the process.Remove existing concrete using a jackhammer and clear work area of debris.Clean chipped areas, using wire brush, and feel and observe surface to determine if it is rough or uneven. Mix cement, sand, and water to produce concrete, grout, or slurry, using hoe, trowel, tamper, scraper, or concrete-mixing machine. Start engine, move throttles, controls, and levers to operate backhoe, skid steer, and front end loader.Mold expansion joints and edges, using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge. Monitor how the wind, heat, or cold affect the curing of the concrete throughout the entire process. Set the forms that hold concrete to the desired pitch and depth, and align them. Spread, level, and smooth concrete, using rake, shovel, hand or power trowel, hand or power screed, and float.Provide assistance to other departments as needed.Perform other duties as required. PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS The Utility Maintenance Department runs smoothly and efficiently.Unsafe areas of concrete are removed in a timely and efficient manner.Creation of new concrete areas is completed with proficient craftsmanship in a timely and efficient manner.Effective working relations exist with City personnel. New employees are well trained and assisted. Management is appropriately informed. Employee understands and adheres to applicable safety policies.The City’s professional reputation is maintained. QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma of general education degree (GED); or six months related experience and or/training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. CERTIFICATES/LICENSES: Class B CDL upon hire.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: Building and Construction: Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of highways and roads.SKILLS/ABILITIES: Ability to operate a backhoe, skid steer, and front end loader.Ability to read and interpret blue prints and other detailed drawings.Handle multiple tasks simultaneously.Accurate and attentive to detail. Good communications and public relations abilities. Ability to assist and support others. Able to operate telephone, PC, copier, and other basic business machines. PHYSICAL & MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION FINGER DEXTERITY: Manual dexterity sufficient to work with the fingers. VISUAL ABILITIES: Normal vision, with or without corrective lenses.PHYSICAL STRENGTH: PDC Level: Heavy Employee lifts/carries 50 lbs. occasionally (less than 33% of the time or 1-100 times a day); exert push/pull force of 100 lbs. Ability to shovel and push material using tools. Ability to kneel and squat to perform concrete work low to the ground. LANGUAGE/COMPREHENSION: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
