Job Description
As a Field Mechanic for MYR Group in the Construction industry within our Technical & Maintenance department, you will play a key role in supporting complex electrical construction projects in transmission, distribution, and commercial/industrial environments. Working primarily in the field at active job sites, you will diagnose, maintain, and repair a wide range of heavy construction and electrical support equipment, such as bucket trucks, digger derricks, cranes, aerial lifts, trenchers, generators, and other specialized tools used by our line and construction crews. You will perform scheduled preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, and safety inspections to minimize downtime and keep our projects operating efficiently and safely. Daily responsibilities include troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems; conducting detailed equipment inspections; documenting all work performed; and ensuring that tools, parts, and service vehicles are properly stocked and maintained. You will coordinate closely with project managers, foremen, and field supervisors to prioritize work orders and support project schedules, helping MYR Group deliver projects on time, on budget, and to the highest quality standards. In this role, you will travel to various project locations, often working outdoors in varying weather conditions and on uneven terrain. A strong commitment to safety is essential, as you will follow MYR Group’s safety protocols, perform job hazard analyses, and ensure all equipment meets applicable codes and company standards before returning it to service. You will contribute to our culture of safety, quality, and teamwork by communicating clearly with crew members, participating in safety meetings, and supporting a collaborative, respectful work environment. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience as a field or heavy equipment mechanic in a construction or industrial setting, with strong diagnostic skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. You should be comfortable using diagnostic tools, reading equipment schematics, and utilizing maintenance software or digital work order systems. A high school diploma or equivalent is required; completion of a technical or vocational program in diesel, heavy equipment, or industrial maintenance is preferred. This position offers the opportunity to directly support MYR Group’s mission of delivering innovative, high-quality electrical construction solutions. As a Field Mechanic, you will be an essential partner to our operations and project management teams, ensuring that equipment is reliable and ready so projects can be executed safely and efficiently. In return, you can expect a stable, full-time role with competitive pay, field-based work, and the chance to grow your skills within a national leader in electrical construction.
