Construction Superintendent - Public Works (Detroit, MI) Our firm is seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to lead the field execution of a major public works project in the City of Detroit. This project involves the renovation of nine (9) CSO (Combined Sewer Overflow) stations throughout Detroit and the surrounding area. This is a high-impact, 18-month project requiring strong leadership, coordination, and the ability to successfully manage work in active, operational environments. Project Scope Includes Masonry and structural concrete rehabilitation Specialized coatings and restoration systems Mechanical and electrical upgrades Access hatch installation and replacement Cleaning and rehabilitation of underground box culverts Position Overview The Superintendent will be responsible for day-to-day field operations, ensuring the project is executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with schedule and budget. This role requires a hands-on leader who can coordinate trades, communicate effectively with stakeholders, and proactively solve problems in the field. Key Responsibilities Serve as Lead Superintendent for an 18-month GLWA project, managing field operations from mobilization through closeout (in coordination with the Project Manager) Develop, maintain, and actively manage the project schedule Coordinate and oversee all subcontractors and trade partners Review, shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs Identify potential roadblocks and implement solutions to maintain project momentum Lead weekly (or as needed) progress meetings with subcontractors, engineers, and stakeholders Ensure compliance with safety standards, quality control, and project specifications Manage project closeout, including all required documentation and turnover Qualifications Proven experience as a Construction Superintendent on commercial, industrial, or public works projects Strong understanding of construction sequencing, scheduling, and field coordination Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and technical documents Excellent communication and leadership skills Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive Experience in water and sewer infrastructure is not required, but is a strong plus.
