Job Title: Continuous Improvement Specialist Job Description The Continuous Improvement Specialist drives operational excellence across a fast-paced manufacturing environment by evaluating current processes, uncovering inefficiencies, and leading improvement initiatives using Lean and related methodologies. This role partners closely with cross-functional teams, spending significant time on the production floor to observe operations, gather data, and implement sustainable changes that enhance safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance. It is a strategic, high-impact position focused on embedding continuous improvement practices and building a culture of engagement and problem solving throughout the organization. Responsibilities Lead and facilitate kaizen events, workshops, and training sessions to drive continuous improvement across manufacturing and production processes. Promote a culture of continuous improvement and actively encourage employee engagement in identifying and implementing process enhancements. Develop, track, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor progress toward improvement goals and operational targets. Identify opportunities for process improvement at all levels of the organization, from the production floor to supporting functions. Conduct detailed data analysis to identify root causes of issues and develop effective, sustainable solutions using Lean principles. Implement process changes, monitor results, and adjust as needed to ensure long-term effectiveness and sustainability of improvements. Apply problem-solving tools such as root cause analysis, 5S, and visual management to streamline workflows and reduce waste. Train, coach, and mentor employees and teams on Lean, continuous improvement methodologies, and problem-solving techniques. Conduct audits to ensure compliance with established processes, standards, and best practices, and identify areas requiring corrective action or improvement. Spend approximately 50% of the time on the production floor, observing processes, gathering data, and making practical, hands-on improvement suggestions. Perform cycle time studies, process mapping, and sequencing of operator tasks to identify bottlenecks and opportunities for optimization. Develop project charters and define measurable goals and success criteria for continuous improvement initiatives. Collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders to align improvement projects with business priorities and operational needs. Take a hands-on approach to implementing improvements, which may include designing and building practical solutions such as racking or shelving systems. Navigate ambiguity and work effectively in an environment where processes are not yet clearly defined, helping to establish structure and standards over time. Essential Skills Proven experience in continuous improvement, process improvement, project management, or operational excellence roles. At least 3 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment. Strong knowledge of Lean principles, Lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement methodologies. Hands-on experience with kaizen events and driving structured improvement activities. Proficiency with problem-solving tools such as root cause analysis, 5S, and visual management. Ability to conduct data analysis, including cycle time studies and process mapping, to identify trends and improvement opportunities. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field. Additional Skills & Qualifications Automotive industry experience is preferred. Experience developing KPIs and performance dashboards for operational excellence initiatives. Operational excellence or Lean Six Sigma environments. Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams through change and improvement initiatives. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously. A mindset focused on continuous learning, adaptability, and driving sustainable change. Work Environment This role is based in a fast-paced, high-impact manufacturing environment where the products directly affect and protect lives. The position operates on a first-shift schedule, with flexibility on start time when needed. The facility has been recently remodeled and features an extremely clean production area along with an on-site game room space, reflecting a modern and employee-focused workplace.
