Job Description
Odin Properties is seeking a hands-on, strategic Controller to lead the Finance, Accounting & Administration function for its growing real estate portfolio. In this role, you will oversee all aspects of property- and corporate-level accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls to support Odin’s mission of acquiring, repositioning, and managing properties that create vibrant communities and improve residents’ lives. The Controller will own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP. You will manage the general ledger, review journal entries and account reconciliations, and consolidate results across multiple entities and markets. Partnering closely with Property Management, Asset Management, and Operations teams, you will translate financial data into clear insights that drive property performance, tenant satisfaction, and long-term portfolio value. You will develop, implement, and continuously improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulatory and lender requirements. The Controller will lead budgeting and forecasting processes, prepare cash flow projections, monitor liquidity, and oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, rent rolls, and vendor payment cycles across Odin’s multi-unit residential properties. This role includes oversight of audit and tax activities, serving as the primary liaison with external auditors, tax advisors, and lenders. You will coordinate annual audits and reviews, manage tax filings in collaboration with outside firms, and ensure all financial covenants and reporting requirements are met. You will also evaluate and optimize financial systems and property management platforms to improve efficiency, accuracy, and reporting capabilities. As a leader within a collaborative, innovation-focused culture, the Controller will mentor and develop a small accounting team, setting clear expectations, providing coaching, and promoting a high standard of integrity and accountability. You will help shape financial best practices that support Odin’s growth, including new acquisitions, repositioning projects, capital improvement programs, and potential dispositions. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting skills, deep experience in real estate or property management finance, excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, and a proactive, business-partner mindset. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, able to prioritize multiple deadlines, and eager to contribute to Odin’s community-focused mission by ensuring that financial decisions are grounded in accurate, timely information. If you are an experienced accounting leader who thrives on building robust financial frameworks, partnering with operations, and supporting long-term portfolio growth, Odin Properties invites you to apply for the Controller role and play a key part in driving both financial excellence and community impact.
