Position Summary: About the Corporate Communications Team Corporate Communications shapes and shares the company’s story with internal and external audiences, supporting business priorities, strengthening culture, and protecting the company’s reputation. The team leads internal and external communications, including research and advocacy, executive messaging and thought leadership, media relations, social media, and corporate storytelling across written, digital, and multimedia channels. Through this work, Corporate Communications helps ensure employees are informed and engaged, and that external audiences clearly understand who we are and what we do. About the Role The Corporate Communications Intern will support the Corporation Communications team on various internal and external communications projects. Areas of focus his will include – but not limited to -, content creation – both multi-media and written – executive messaging, and enterprise-wide communications. The Corporate Communications intern will also assist in development of media research and analysis, social media content, and media relations support on consumer-topics aligned to Sallie Mae’s efforts to help students and families effectively plan and pay for higher education. The intern will also provide support to Sallie Mae’s Corporate Social Responsibility and broader legal and corporate affairs initiatives. Key Responsibilities: Internal Communications & Content Creation Support internal communications initiatives, including enterprise-wide messages, leadership communications, and intranet content. Assist with planning, filming, editing, and producing internal videos and multimedia content. Help develop engaging storytelling formats to support employee engagement and awareness of corporate priorities. Attend internal meetings and support follow-up communications and ad hoc projects. Social Media & External Communications Support Support social media efforts on LinkedIn and X (Twitter), including identifying opportunities for Sallie Mae to join relevant conversations. Research and identify appropriate people/accounts, organizations, and influencers related to follow related to higher education-related information. Assist with drafting and editing external-facing content, including news releases and social posts highlighting consumer-focused initiatives, research, and philanthropic efforts. Research & Insights Support Support the development of communications tied to Sallie Mae’s annual research report, How America Pays for College . Monitor media and social trends related to higher education and personal finance to identify opportunities for proactive engagement. Additional Support Provide general support to the Corporate Communications team and Legal & Corporate Affairs partners, as needed. Education: Currently enrolled in a college or university. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong written and verbal communication skills.
