Job Description
JOB Reporting directly to a Sergeant or Lieutenant, responsible for supervising inmates and providing care, safety, and security while maintaining rules, regulations, and cleanliness of the Williamson County Jail. Works in one of three general post assignments: Booking, Pod, Medical, or Floor. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Maintains safety and security in the JailReceives, books, and secures inmates upon arrivalOversees and maintains area of assigned responsibilityConducts daily physical inspections and searches of the facilities, inmates, and visitorsSupervises inmates’ activities (i.e. recreation, visitation, meals, etc.)Posts, maintains, and enforces jail rules as well as state, federal, and departmental policies and proceduresObserves inmates to detect, deter, and/or prevent self-destructive or criminal behaviorsAssists with transport of inmatesPerforms special duties as assignedORGANIZATION RELATIONSHIPSReports directly to – Sergeant or LieutenantDirect Reports – NoPHYSICAL DEMANDS Position involves physically subduing and restraining aggressive inmatesPosition involves constantly standing and walking on concrete floors while making roundsPosition involves dragging a minimum of 165 pounds (training/recruitment mannequin) in a manner consistent with rescue and restraint maneuversPosition involves to hearing audible sounds and speaking in a clear understandable voicePosition may involve working day and/or overnight shiftsENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS Maximum security facility behind locked doorsExposure to individuals accused or convicted of crimes, individuals with risk of illness, and potential biohazardsMay be required to perform some work outdoors in inclement weather (heat, cold, wet conditions)IRREGULAR HOURSWork outside of the normal office hours (Monday – Friday) may be requiredMay be deemed essential personnel in the event of an emergencyRegular attendance is requiredThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this job.
