Job Description
JOIN OUR TEAM AS A CREW LEADER! Lead position performs supervisory work in maintenance and supervision of daily park operations at multiple park sites under limited to no supervision.Essential Job Functions Determines how to use equipment and staff to accomplish day-to-day tasks for the operation and maintenance of passive parks and trails within the Parks and Trails Division.Provides staff with instructions and advice to resolve problems encountered during the workday.Performs inspections and, if needed, takes corrective action to ensure that park site operations and maintenance meet Department standards, policies, and procedures.Schedules and coordinates work with vendors, contractors, and other agencies.Coordinates materials, supplies, equipment, and personnel to ensure completion of construction and maintenance assignments.Assists with preparation, evaluation, and implementation of annual program budget.Assists with specifications for purchase of new equipment, vehicles, and supplies.Develops and maintains effective working relationships with other county departments and outside governmental agencies.Issues verbal and written instructions to correct problems and follows up on work requests.Leads, directs, coordinates, assists, and supports full-time and part-time staff, contractors, and volunteers.Leads, plans, schedules, and performs employee training in areas of performance.Provides direction on safe practices includes the safe operation of equipment.Contributions in duties of Park Ranger as needed.Interacts with the public, provides and receives information, explains and enforces rules and regulations, and handles public requests and complaints.Possesses intermediate computer knowledge.Assists the Supervisor with records, reports, schedules, payroll, interviews, training, evaluations, purchasing, budget development, public relations, development and administration of policies, and other related tasks.May assume additional responsibilities if the Supervisors is unavailable.Operates equipment in the performance of required duties including, but not limited to, 4x4 pickup trucks, ATVs, and utility carts.Assists with maintaining light-duty construction and maintenance equipment.Ability to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects.Assists with and performs related work as required.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of park operations to include maintenance/construction work such as carpentry, electrical repairs, mechanical repairs, and general maintenance of facilities and equipment.Knowledge in the construction, maintenances, and repairs of park amenities and facilities such as small buildings, fences, trails, service roads, fire lanes, boardwalks, campsites, picnic sites, boat ramps, and docks.Knowledge of materials, tools, equipment, and supplies used in park operations.Knowledge of resource management techniques and natural based recreational programming.Knowledge of supervision and oversight, with the basic understanding of leadership principles and the ability to supervise.Ability to provide training to lower-level positions.Ability to lead and supervise others in the performance of required duties, indoors and outdoors, occasionally under adverse weather conditions.Ability to participate in resource management activities and conduct environmental and history interpretive programs and services.Ability to deal effectively with all County and department staff, the public, and outside entities.Ability to understand, interpret, and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.Ability to keep written records and present accurate oral and written reports.Ability to understand and apply rules, directives, laws, regulations and policies.Ability to demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills.Skill in care, operation, and use of tools and equipment including hand tools, small engines, and power tools.Skill in the application of maintenance and construction activities/techniques.Skill in team building and management.Must complete Leadership courses through NeoGov.Minimum Requirements PHYSICAL SKILLS/WORKING CONDITIONS:Ability to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects.May use a handling device (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessively heavy objects.Ability to bend, stoop, walk, and squat frequently.Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication.May require weekend, night, and holiday work.Position is required to withstand strenuous physical activities and work in adverse weather conditions and temperatures.EDUCATION, TRAINING AND Experience:Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and Two (2) years of experience in park maintenance or construction including six (6) months in a lead or semi supervisory capacity.One (1) year of related college and/or trade school preferred.LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS
