Position Details CTE PROGRAM SUMMARY: A state-approved Career & Technical Education (CTE) Program of Study (POS) is a series of courses that helps students develop the technical skills, academic knowledge and real-world experiences needed to prepare them for the high-skill, high-demand, high-wage careers of the 21st century. Existing CTE Programs include, but are not limited to Construction, Health Sciences, Digital Media, Photography, Manufacturing, Information Technology/Computers, Engineering and Business. POSITION SUMMARY: Career Technical Education teacher with a focus on Construction. The classroom teacher performs under supervision of a principal or other designated supervisor and has major responsibility for the instruction and supervision of students. Instruction of students shall include individual skill development, expansion of knowledge, and development of ability to reason. Supervision of students shall include guidance, development and safety. The classroom teacher functions in accordance with the established policies, rules, regulations and the performance standards of the District/State and the performance goals established for the teacher. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Include, but are not limited to: Provide relevant, rigorous, technical skill standards-based content. Align courses/content with post-secondary education partners. Assess technical skills. Establish/maintain a program of study Advisory Committee comprised of business, community and education partners. Provide guidance support to assist students in progressing through a CTE program of study. Provide student leadership organization opportunities for further growth and professional development. Integrate work-readiness skills instruction. Develop and maintain business partnerships. Attend required state, regional and district workshops and conferences. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS Career & Technical Education Teachers: Must hold or be eligible to obtain an Oregon State Career and Technical Education (CTE) teaching certificate in the related Program of Study area. Prospective CTE teachers do not have to come in with a teaching license/endorsement. CTE licenses may be obtained provided individuals have direct industry/professional experience (2000 hours in the construction industry). A teaching background is not a requirement. Must have demonstrated experience in the program of study area. Must adhere to Career and Technical Education program standards set by the Oregon Department of Education and Portland Public Schools. Education & Experience Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree preferred. Skill in applying technology in education. 2000 hours industry experience within the field of construction. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Skill and ability to teach a broad range of levels of CTE subject area. Energetic, empathetic, and innovative. Ability to be flexible and resourceful. Desire to work with students from a variety of cultural backgrounds and learning abilities. Ability to use technology as a tool in the classroom. Demonstrated ability to work with a wide variety of high school students in a multicultural setting. Possess the knowledge and skills to develop positive interpersonal relationships. Good organization and management skills. Ability to meet individual student needs in the development of department goals and restructuring of the curriculum. Desire to collaborate with colleagues. Desire to network with external colleagues to develop programs for students (speakers, job shadow, field trips, internships, etc.). PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bilingual/Bi-Cultural Chinese, Russian, Somali, Spanish, and Vietnamese applicants are highly desirable.
