Essential Job Functions Cleans all restrooms on a daily basis via proper use of chemicals with subsequent replenishment of all paper products and soap associated with use of restrooms. Removes trash from wastebaskets and clean wastebaskets if needed. Provides emergency clean-up. Performs daily vacuuming of carpeted areas and daily sweeping/mopping of hard tile areas with subsequent carpet cleaning and refinishing of hard surface floors where applicable. Performs detailed cleaning of office areas including dusting, glass, telephones, chairs, handrails, vents, doors and trash removal. Will use ladders when required in work assignments. Performs various tasks in moving or rearranging furniture, desks and other equipment; sets-up and takes down tables for meetings, training and other special events. Locks and unlocks assigned buildings; secures building when facilities are not in use checking for unlocked doors and windows, reports any unauthorized occupants, turns off lights. Keeps outside area near entrance clean. Cleans, washes and disinfects drinking fountains. Washes all finger marks from walls, doors, hardware and glass throughout the building. Performs and/or reports minor maintenance repairs. Cleans kitchen/break room sinks, appliances and counters. Maintains storage areas and cleaning equipment, materials and supplies in a safe and orderly manner in order to ensure the safety of staff and the public. Performs related duties as assigned. Responds regularly and promptly to work. Minimum Qualifications Must be at least 18. Must possess at least one (1) year of custodial and/or facilities maintenance experience. High School Diploma or GED preferred, but not required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of: Cleaning principals and practices. Safety practices related to chemicals. Ability to: Perform simple physical tasks and to apply standard solutions to recurring situations. Understand and follow written and verbal instructions. Use janitorial equipment and hand tools. Comply with City and department administrative directives, policies, and procedures. Remain constantly alert and aware of any workplace hazards and follow the safety practices and principles in reporting and preventing accidents. Demonstrate satisfactory work performance and regular, reliable, and punctual attendance. Provide management with sound, positive advice, and information concerning the area of responsibility. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work and communicate effectively with the public and other required entities. Skills: Strong customer service skills with the ability to greet and respond to customers in a friendly and professional manner. Licenses, Certifications & Special Requirements Texas Class C driver’s license with a good driving record as measured by the City’s evaluation system. Must be able to access facilities that house Texas Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) System data. As a result, the person selected for the position cannot possess a felony or Class A misdemeanor conviction; or a Class B misdemeanor conviction within the past 10 years.
