About the Role The Custodian plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment within the facility. This position ensures that all janitorial duties are performed efficiently to support the health and safety standards of the workplace. The Custodian is responsible for the upkeep of floors, restrooms, and common areas, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere for employees, visitors, and clients. Through diligent cleaning and maintenance, the Custodian helps prevent hazards and promotes a productive environment. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to follow both oral and written instructions accurately. Minimum Qualifications: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and cleaning instructions. Basic math skills including the ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers. Physical capability to perform repetitive motions and reach with hands and arms. Experience with janitorial duties or custodial work preferred but not required. Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately and consistently. Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience working as a custodian or in a similar janitorial role. Familiarity with cleaning chemicals and supplies, including safe handling procedures. Knowledge of balancing tasks and prioritizing duties to maximize efficiency. Certification in workplace safety or custodial training programs. Strong communication skills to coordinate with team members and supervisors. Responsibilities: Perform routine cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting floors and surfaces. Sanitize restrooms and replenish supplies to maintain hygiene standards. Dispose of trash and recycling materials in accordance with facility guidelines. Operate cleaning equipment safely and perform minor maintenance as needed. Follow safety rules and procedures to prevent accidents and ensure a secure environment. Read and interpret cleaning schedules, safety instructions, and maintenance documents. Report any maintenance issues or safety hazards to the appropriate personnel promptly. Assist with setup and breakdown of furniture or equipment for events or meetings as required. Skills The required skills such as balancing, reading and interpreting documents, and following safety rules are essential for performing daily custodial tasks safely and effectively. The ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers supports inventory management and supply tracking. Repetitive motions and reaching with hands and arms are frequently used during cleaning and maintenance activities, requiring physical stamina and dexterity. Janitorial duties demand attention to detail and consistency to maintain cleanliness standards. Preferred skills like knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safety certifications enhance the custodians ability to work efficiently while minimizing risks.
