For more information, visit us online at gcsu.edu. Job Summary The Custodian Lead serves as the working lead for the Building Services Unit. This position is responsible for assigning work and providing operational support to a small team of Custodian I staff who perform general cleaning and Custodian II staff who specialize in floor care. The Custodian Lead supervises and trains approximately three to five employees, ensures daily custodial tasks are completed, and provides coverage during employee absences. The role also includes communicating performance or behavioral concerns to the supervisor and supporting overall custodial operations. Responsibilities Leadership - 80% Provide day-to-day leadership and oversight for a custodial team of approximately 3 to 5 staff members. Assign and delegate duties to Custodian I staff responsible for general cleaning and Custodian II staff responsible for floor care. Train staff on the proper use of custodial equipment, tools, chemicals, and cleaning procedures. Ensure work is completed according to established standards, schedules, and safety practices. Respond to employee call-ins and step in to perform custodial duties as needed to maintain coverage. Monitor employee performance and promptly report performance issues or behavioral concerns to the supervisor. Other Duties - 20% Respond to custodial emergencies during assigned shifts and notify the supervisor as appropriate. Perform additional duties as required to support departmental operations and goals. Attend departmental meetings, trainings, and required professional development sessions.
