We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Per Diem Cytotechnologist - Surgical Pathology - Mineola. In this role, the successful candidate Works closely with Manager Supervisor/ Section Head and Staff Pathologists to deliver quality sample review and analysis. Performs specimen adequacy and accessions fine needle aspirations. Operates the telecytology microscope in conjunction with pathologists. Screens and interprets Gyn, non-Gyn and FNA slides. Job Responsibilities: Performs other duties as assigned Operates the telecytology microscope in conjunction with pathologists. Performs specimen adequacy and accessions fine needle aspirations. Screens and interprets gyn, non-gyn and Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) slides. Reviews previous pathologycytology history for correlation with present specimen. Follows "high risk" PAP criteria for pathologist review of high risk negative PAPs. Participates in quality assurance and quality control as directed. Participates in proficiency testing programs and quality assurance programs. Maintains accurate records of daily workload. Maintains daily slide maximum or maximum assigned number by pathologist ( 100 slides). Participates in resident training and training of other students as they rotate through the cytology section. Maintains current knowledge in the field of cytology medicine. Maintains continuing education requirements as regulated by the NYS Department of Education (DOE). Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a Diploma Accredited Cytotechnology program. Cytotechnologist License - NYS. ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathology) Certification. 3 - 5 years Experience in cytology. 1 - 2 years Experience in performing fine needle aspiration adequacy assessment. Excellent communication (both oral and written), interpersonal, organization and leadership skills. Technical skills related to the laboratory discipline. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).. Required Licenses: ASCP Board Certification, Cytotechnologist License - NYS Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree Major consistent with NYS Department of Education Cytotechnologist requirements. ThinPrep and SurePath Certification. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
