Job Description
Job Description The Data & AI Enablement organization is seeking a Data Architect - Business Intelligence & Information Consumption to design, sustain, and evolve the architectures that power enterprise analytics, visualization, and AI-enabled consumption experiences. This role owns the consumption layer - how users interact with governed data products through BI tools, natural language interfaces, and consumption pathways that reduce dependency on central teams. The role balances two focus areas: Sustaining & modernizing the architectures of existing BI platforms (Tableau, Alteryx, WebFOCUS, BusinessObjects), including lifecycle planning and modernization roadmap Designing future-state consumption patterns that incorporate Databricks AI/BI, natural language interfaces, and emerging information consumption technologies The ideal candidate combines deep BI platform expertise with forward-looking architectural thinking - someone who can govern today's tools while designing the path toward modern, AI-enabled consumption. Key Responsibilities Architecture & Standards Design and evolve architectures for enterprise BI and AI-enabled consumption platforms Design consumption-ready models within BI tools (published data sources, pre-built joins, extracts) that surface governed data products for self-service use Ensure BI tools and consumption interfaces correctly consume governed metric definitions and semantic standards from Unity Catalog Define architectural guardrails and lifecycle management for citizen-developed assets, including promotion pathways, reuse standards, and deprecation Information Consumption & Enablement Design the end-to-end information consumption experience: discoverability, documentation, guided analytics, and trusted access patterns Guide cross-functional teams in adopting modern information consumption patterns and capabilities Platform Transition Architect the transition from legacy BI tooling toward modern consumption patterns on Databricks and emerging platforms Define modernization criteria - which legacy tools remain, which sunset, and on what timeline Design coexistence patterns during transition (legacy and modern tools consuming the same governed data products) Collaboration Partner with the Data Products & Marketplace Architect to ensure consumption tools are aligned with product contracts and access patterns Work with governance teams to ensure consumption-layer access aligns with enterprise access policies #EBDT Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field 8+ years of experience in data architecture, BI architecture, or analytics engineering Demonstrated experience designing and governing BI architectures across multiple tools in a large enterprise Experience working across multiple business areas and functions within a large enterprise Ability to translate business needs into intuitive consumption experiences that enable users to find answers without assistance Demonstrated ability to communicate architectural decisions and modernization roadmaps to both technical and non-technical stakeholders Desired skills Hands-on experience with Tableau, Alteryx, WebFOCUS, and/or BusinessObjects architecture and administration Experience with modern platforms such as Databricks, including AI/BI dashboards and Genie Spaces Familiarity with AI-enabled BI concepts (natural language querying, semantic search) Experience defining and executing BI platform consolidation or migration strategies Knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance standards relevant to enterprise analytics Experience with information consumption enablement programs - measuring adoption, reducing time-to-insight Lockheed Martin is an equal opportunity employer.
