Introduction The State of Connecticut Department of Administrative Services (DAS) , Bureau of Information Technology Solutions (BITS) is seeking applications from experienced individuals for the position of Data Practice Analyst (ITA2). Position Details Full-time, 40 hours/week Monday-Friday Standard hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM with some flexibility based on operational needs Located in Hartford, CT Hybrid work environment The Role The Data Practice Analyst will support the early development of a scalable data practice within BITS. Positioned within the Architecture & Strategy division, this role supports a more intentional approach by identifying how data is currently used, helping to rationalize existing efforts and introducing practical guidance to improve consistency over time. By laying this groundwork, BITS is better positioned to evolve toward a more scalable and cohesive data practice. This position serves as a central, consultative resource, working across teams to identify opportunities to improve data accessibility, quality, and usage. In its initial phase, the role emphasizes discovery, rationalization, and the introduction of practical guidance and patterns that can be adopted over time. Position Duties Assess and document current data practices, tools, and approaches across BITS Identify opportunities to improve consistency, reduce duplication, and simplify data use Provide advisory and consultative support to teams, including analyzing needs and recommending improvements to data-informed decision-making approaches Contribute to the development of guidance, patterns, and lightweight standards for data use Support rationalization of existing reporting and data assets where appropriate Develop reusable templates, examples, and reference materials to promote consistency Provide targeted analytical support to inform and validate emerging data approaches Perform information technology, business intelligence, and data analysis to evaluate user needs and develop actionable recommendations Analyze business requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions Work with data systems, data structures, and information management tools to organize, process, and maintain data integrity Utilize SQL to query, analyze and extract insights from structured datasets to support decision-making Use data visualization and business intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) to create reports and dashboards Provide technical and analytical consultation to stakeholders Analyze and interpret data to identify issues and recommend solutions Document processes, develop guidance materials, and support solution implementation Collaborate across teams and communicate effectively with technical and nontechnical stakeholders Career Trajectory Selection Plan For Assistance In Applying Check out our Applicant Tips on How to Apply !
