Odessa Family YMCA JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title:Summer Lifeguard - DEEP WATER (SHERWOOD, WOODSON, FLOYD GWIN) PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG TEST & BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIRED!! RANDOM DRUG TEST THROUGHOUT THE DURATION OF EMPLOYMENT FLSA Status:Non-exempt Reports to:Aquatics Director Revision Date:04/05/2022 Leadership Level:Leader Primary Function/Department:Aquatics POSITION Summary:This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.The Lifeguard at Odessa Family YMCA creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck and surrounding areas in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.Assist new swimmers and swim activities to help and teach our guest to safely enjoy the water.Essential Functions:Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, completes related reports as required.Provide leadership during specified activities.Including but not limited to open swim, swim lessons, and pool parties Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.To be on time, reliable and in appropriate attire To communicate effectively with guest, staff, and supervisors.Attend all staff meetings.Responsible for keeping certifications current.Must attend monthly mandatory In-service trainings Qualifications:Minimum age of 16 Certifications:Valid American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED Certificate.Must possess an outgoing personality, enabling him/her to relate well to all members.WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Able to preform in outdoor weather conditions.Capable of walking, sitting, standing, bending and moving for long periods, able to lift over 50lbs Physically perform all skills required of a lifeguard.Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility.Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness.See and observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility.SIGNATURE:I have reviewed and understand this job description.__________________________________ _________________________________ Employee's name Employee's signature Today's date:_______________________ Job Types:Temporary, Part-time, Full-time Pay:$13.00 - $15.00 per hour Benefits:Employee discount Flexible schedule Education:High school or equivalent (Preferred) Experience:Lifeguard:1 year (Preferred) License/Certification:Lifeguard Certification (Preferred) Work Location:In person.
