Deli Cook

Job Summary Brighter Day Natural Foods is Savannah's independent health food store and we are looking for an experienced and creative Deli Cook to join our team! If you have a passion for healthy, delicious food and a strong background in kitchen work, we’d love to meet you. This position requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities Prepare cooked grab-and-go meal items following recipes and department standards Maintain consistent food quality, portioning, and presentation Assist with daily prep work such as chopping, mixing, cooking, cooling, and packaging Label and date prepared foods accurately and follow rotation standards Follow safe food handling practices including proper temperatures, cooling, and reheating procedures Maintain cleanliness of cooking stations, prep areas, tools, and equipment throughout the shift Complete opening/closing duties and cleaning tasks as assigned Assist with organizing ingredients, supplies, and back stock to support efficient production flow Communicate low-stock needs, quality concerns, or equipment issues to deli leadership Support waste reduction by following prep lists, batch guidance, and portion control standards Provide friendly teamwork and assist the deli team as needed during busy periods Follow store safety standards, cleanliness expectations, and loss prevention procedure Requirements 1+ years of experience as a cook, preferably in a deli or similar environment. Knowledge of international cuisine, vegan/vegetarian cooking, health conscious recipes and global food standards preferred. Passion for whole foods and a strong understanding of nutritional ingredients. Knowledge of food safety practices and proper food handling techniques is essential. Ability to operate kitchen equipment safely, including knives and slicers. Strong communication skills with a focus on customer service excellence. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail. Flexibility to work various shifts including weekends and holidays as needed.
