JOB The 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office is committed to seeking and pursuing justice on behalf of victims of crime through the fair and ethical prosecution of those who commit offenses in our community. With a focus on education, treatment, and a reduction in recidivism, the District Attorney’s Office will also work vigorously to reform the criminal justice system to better serve those who live and work in Adams and Broomfield Counties.The Deputy District Attorney – Felony Prosecutor performs professional legal work in the prosecution of felony criminal cases in the 17th Judicial District, acting on behalf of the District Attorney and representing the People of the State of Colorado. Attorneys in this category have consistently demonstrated the experience and competence necessary to prosecute complex felony cases. Attorneys have also demonstrated leadership ability and consistency in developing working relationships with law enforcement, the judiciary, the defense bar, victim groups, and the community. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Demonstrate a strong commitment to seeking justice, preserving community safety and making the criminal justice system betterPerforms the duties of a District Court felony prosecutor, including preparing and conducting jury trials on felony offenses of varying levels of complexity.Maintains a large caseload of felony cases and perform all necessary duties to shepherd the cases through the criminal justice system, including making appropriate plea offers, working with victims, preparing witnesses, collaborating with law enforcement and interacting with defense attorneys. Presents evidence, argues motions of suppression and other legal motions, and litigates all stages of a jury trial from jury selection to closing statement.Performs legal research as needed for the proper prosecution of felony casesRepresents the District Attorney using professionalism and integrity in dealing with court officials, witnesses, members of the legal community and the general public.Establishes, nurtures, and improves relationships between the District Attorney’s Office and the community Provides, on a scheduled basis, off-hour and on-call services to police agencies requiring assistance during nights and weekendsTO BE SUCCESSFUL, OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE SHOULD HAVE THE FOLLOWING KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of the duties, powers, limitations and authorities of the District Attorney’s Office and related law enforcement or criminal justice agenciesExperience prosecuting felony cases from their inception to jury trial, sentencing and post-conviction litigationSkill in courtroom presentationKnowledge of established precedents, case law and sources of legal reference applicable to the activities of assigned specialized area and the District Attorney’s OfficeKnowledge of criminal law and procedure, rules of evidence, and advanced principles of litigation, trial and hearing proceduresKnowledge of ethical guidelines applicable to the position as outlined by professional standards and/or federal, state and local laws, rules and regulationsCommitment to working collaboratively in a team environment Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writingAbility to work independently and efficiently to meet statutory deadlinesAbility to learn and utilize computer case management software programsAbility to maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, court officials, law enforcement and the community SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION Please submit a cover letter and resume with your application.
