The County of Yolo is recruiting to fill one (1) regular, full-time position in the class of Detention Officer I / II at the Probation department. In addition to this job opportunity, the eligible list that is established as a result of this recruitment will be used to fill vacancies in this class as they become available. The education, experience, and other qualifications of the selected candidate will determine the level at which the position will be offered. The salary range for each classification level is as follows: Detention Officer I: $65,228.80 - $79,289.60 Annually Detention Officer II: $74,796.80 - $90,916.80 Annually The Position The position exists with the Yolo County Probation Department and will be assigned to work at the Juvenile Detention Facility which is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week and requires employees to work a variety of shifts. This is a peace officer classification under Section 830.5 of the California Penal Code. Under direct supervision, and in accordance with guidelines and procedures, incumbents are responsible for the supervision, custodial care, and limited counseling of a group of youth or adults placed under the jurisdiction of the County Probation Officer. Staff assignments can be made to the Juvenile Detention Facility, the Work Program, and/or the Transportation Division. Minimum Qualifications Detention Officer I Age: At least 20 years of age. Education: Completion of 30 semester units or 45 quarter units of college with major coursework in the behavioral sciences; OR Experience: One year of full-time experience in a related field supervising, observing, and assessing youth, preferable in a security setting. Special Requirements: Within the first year of employment in this classification, incumbents must successfully complete the Juvenile Corrections Officer Core Course provided by the CA Board of State and Community Correction - Standards and Training for Corrections Program, and thereafter successfully complete required annual certified updated courses. Candidates may waive all or part of the required training if they enter this class having already completed the Juvenile Corrections Officer Core Course. Detention Officers are required to attend training as prescribed by the Department and/or legally mandated for Management of Assaultive Behavior, First Aid/CPR, Chemical Agents, and Firearms. Detention Officers assigned to the Work Program/Transportation Division shall meet the training requirements and quarterly qualifications set forth in the California Penal Code and overseen by the Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Program for firearms. Detention Officer II Age: At least 20 years of age. Education: Completion of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units of college with major coursework in the behavioral sciences; AND Experience: One year of regular, full-time experience as a Detention Officer I in Yolo County, or an equivalent position in another County Juvenile Detention Facility or State Youth Authority Agency. (Related experience may be substituted for the required college education on a year-for-year basis); AND Certificate: Possession of the Juvenile Corrections Officer Core Course provided by the CA Board of State and Community Correction - Standards and Training for Corrections Program. Additional Requirements for Level I and II License: Positions in this classification require incumbents to possess and maintain a valid California driver's license, Class C or higher, to carry out job related duties.
