Job Description
General Summary Under the supervision of nursing staff, provides direct care and monitoring of patients undergoing hemodialysis. Communicates patient status to appropriate team members and works as part of an interdisciplinary care team. Key Responsibilities: Monitor patients during dialysis and report changes promptly Provide direct patient care under nursing supervision Respond to emergencies as needed Reinforce patient education Document care and observations (e.g., flow sheets, incident reports) Follow unit-specific operational procedures (e.g., schedules, breaks) Maintain respectful, professional interactions with patients and families Under Medical Director delegation and nursing supervision: Administer normal saline via extracorporeal system Administer 2% xylocaine (if ordered) at initiation of dialysis Administer prescribed anticoagulants (e.g., heparin, saline) Instill anticoagulants into catheter ports post-treatment as ordered Participate in on-call duties if required Perform additional duties as assigned Education & Experience High School Diploma (required); Associate’s Degree in Science (preferred) Dialysis experience preferred Dialysis Technician Certification required (within 18 months if newly hired)
