Job Description
Job Overview Join our compassionate team as a Direct Care Staff member, where your dedication will make a meaningful difference in the lives of youth requiring individualized support within a Short-Term Residential Therapeutic Program (STRTP). In this rewarding and fast-paced role, you will provide daily supervision, care, structure, and emotional support to residents while helping maintain a safe, respectful, and therapeutic environment. This position offers an opportunity to build valuable experience in behavioral health, youth development, and residential care services. Duties & Responsibilities Provide direct supervision and support to youth in accordance with STRTP policies, program expectations, and individualized treatment goals Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including hygiene, grooming, laundry, room upkeep, and daily routines Support and model appropriate behavior management, conflict resolution, coping skills, and emotional regulation techniques Monitor resident behaviors, interactions, and overall well-being while maintaining accurate and timely documentation Administer medications according to facility protocols and maintain documentation through Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems Transport youth to school, medical appointments, therapy sessions, court appointments, recreational outings, and other approved activities while following transportation safety procedures Assist with meal preparation, meal supervision, and ensuring dietary needs are met Conduct room searches, safety checks, and contraband inspections as required by facility policy Maintain a clean, organized, and safe living environment within resident bedrooms, common areas, and staff spaces Respond appropriately to crisis situations utilizing de-escalation techniques, trauma-informed care practices, and emergency response procedures Participate in shift change communication, team meetings, trainings, and ongoing professional development Complete incident reports, medication logs, behavior documentation, and other required program records accurately and within required timelines Qualifications & Skills Experience working in residential care, STRTP, group homes, behavioral health, foster care, juvenile services, or related human services settings preferred Knowledge of trauma-informed care, behavior intervention strategies, crisis de-escalation, and youth supervision practices Ability to work effectively with youth experiencing emotional, behavioral, or mental health challenges Familiarity with medication administration procedures and documentation standards preferred Strong communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills Ability to remain calm, professional, and supportive in high-stress situations Basic computer and documentation skills Current CPR/First Aid certification preferred or ability to obtain upon hire Valid California driver’s license with an acceptable driving record Ability to pass background clearance, health screening, and any licensing requirements Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and assist residents throughout the shift Ability to safely respond during emergency or crisis situations Ability to transport and supervise residents in community settings Work Environment This position works within a residential treatment setting serving youth with behavioral, emotional, and mental health needs. Staff must maintain professional boundaries, uphold confidentiality, and contribute to a structured, supportive, and therapeutic environment. Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour Work Location: In person
