Position Summary The role of a Horizontal/Directional Drill Locator includes operating horizontal/directional drill rigs, locating equipment and product support equipment. Perform semi-skilled activities related to HDD locating along with familiarity with industry standards, policies, guidelines, and procedures. This is a safety sensitive position. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operates Horizontal Directional Drill Locator for installation of underground telecommunications cable conduit, including fiber optic cable. Confirm bore path with install foreman and drill operator (including walking the bore path). Perform job site analysis (JSA) including completion of paperwork. Ensure there are proper clearances to install the product per standards. Record the depth of the tool head as required. Ensure the drill head is in a good position at the exit pit to connect the product. Locate telecom utilities with either Digi-Track or Subsite locating systems. Ability to work in fast paced environment. Ability to work safely and with or without direct supervision. Performs other related duties as assigned. Traveling 80% of the time. Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective processes, completion of projects and smooth operation of department. Qualifications Education and Experience High school diploma, GED, or equivalent. Must have valid Driver's License, CDL a plus. Will be operating DOT registered vehicles. Must be in compliance with DOT regulations. Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Experience with locating & verifying all utilities before construction. At a minimum, the position requires a good working knowledge of telecommunications construction; familiarity with Horizontal Directional Drills, ability to use cable placement equipment and tools. Ability to identify and troubleshoot problems. Individuals must be able to read prints and have knowledge of the underground process.
