We are a team of professionals who are stewards of our facilities and operations. We analyze and plan for our future facility needs while managing the safe and reliable operations of our existing facilities. OFPM is responsible for Space and Real Estate, Project Management, Facilities Operations, Safety and Emergency preparedness, Capital Planning and Budget. OFPM invites applications for the position of Director of Campus and Space Planning. As part of the leadership within the Office of Facilities Planning and Management, this position will be responsible for leading a team of professionals charged with defining and then creating the future state of research and education facilities in the School of Medicine (SoM). The Director of Campus and Space Planning is a vital leadership position within OFPM, and we are seeking an individual committed to the SoM vision. They will develop and showcase solutions that are best in class enabling faculty and student success. They will be committed to the value, principles, and mission of OFPM and SoM. They will be recognized as an expert and leader, who is trusted and valued by all partners and peers. The position is a hybrid position with multiple weekdays required onsite. Duties Include Reporting to the Assistant Dean, the position will be part of the OFPM leadership team and assist in the overall management of the group as needed. Evaluating options for future use of existing and new facilities that enable SoM to move towards the accomplishment of its mission. Analyze complex data and present findings that enable developing feasibility assessments leading to project execution. Undertaking analysis and feasibility studies, developing alternatives and reports aimed at ensuring the SoM facilities support our students and faculty now, and move us towards a safe, sustainable, and resilient future. Managing a team of professionals responsible for the campus and space planning efforts and ensuring their performance and professional development meets the highest standards. Independently assess and evaluate space and facilities related requests from faculty and leadership, study feasible alternatives, develop scope of work for preferred solution, and work on implementation plans with the Project Management team leading to a smooth transition. Responsible for developing and maintaining a long-term space and facilities vision for the Stanford Integrated Master Plan. Independently working with faculty and leadership committees, managing some, while staffing others. Independently work with University and Hospital partners to solve long term space and facility needs, supporting their needs while also advocating for SoM. Work with professional services consultants (architects, engineers, etc.) in ensuring plans and projects are executed as expected. Other duties may also be assigned Desired Qualifications Minimum 10 years of professional experience in planning and managing complex space-related problems at a university campus and within an academic/biomedical environment. Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated success in people management. Strong background and grounding in institutional projects of significance as a consultant or project staff. Demonstrate ability with critical thinking, developing and implementing creative and intelligent solutions for projects. Graduate degree (e.g., MA, MBA, PhD, etc.) preferred. Professional licensure in relevant field strongly preferred. Demonstrated commitment to sustainability principles in past efforts. Education & Experience (required) Graduate degree in architecture, landscape architecture, planning, or other appropriate specialty and ten plus years of professional experience including managerial experience, or combination of education and experience. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities (required) Ability to oversee and direct staff. Ability to manage budgets and develop financial plans. Demonstrated ability to coordinate large, complex projects. Demonstrated creative problem-solving ability. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to cultivate strong and collaborative internal and external relationships.
