Job Description
Job OverviewThe Director provides visionary leadership to ensure Millis Public Schools remains at the forefront of educational excellence.In collaboration with the administrative team, the Director ensures Pre-K through Grade 12 curriculum that is clearly articulated, aligned with state frameworks, and rooted in evidence-based instructional practices.As primary architect of the districts instructional strategy, the Director ensures that the PK-12 curriculum is rigorous, culturally responsive, and vertically aligned.The Director also coordinates the districts English Learner program.The Directors main objective is to foster high levels of student achievement, growth, and engagement for all students through a cohesive system of teaching and learning.QualificationsEducation:Advanced degree in Educational Leadership or Curriculum and Instruction.Certification:Valid Massachusetts DESE licensure as a Supervisor/Director (Pre-K-12) or Assistant Superintendent/Superintendent.Experience:Minimum of 5 years of successful classroom teaching and 35 years of school or district-level administrative experience.Core Competencies:Expertise in Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), evidence-based practices, and data-driven decision-making.Deep knowledge of state frameworks and assessment data; experience in grant writing; experience with English Learner programs; demonstrated technological competence.Interpersonal:A collegial, highly motivated, and collaborative leader with exceptional communication skills.Performance ResponsibilitiesI.Leadership in Curriculum & InstructionCurriculum Alignment:Lead the systematic review, evaluation, and revision of Pre-K12 curriculum to ensure strict alignment with Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, Millis Vision of a Graduate, and district goals.Committee Oversight:Coordinate all district-wide curriculum committees focused on improving teaching and learning.Instructional Excellence:Conduct research on instructional effectiveness and collaborate with Principals to ensure high-quality, evidence-based practices are implemented in every classroom.Educational Integration:Partner with the Director of Student Support Services and the Director of Technology to integrate special education services and blended/personalized learning tools into the general curriculum.II.Assessment & Data AnalyticsAssessment Coordination:Manage the district-wide universal screening and assessment program to monitor student growth and achievement.Data-Driven Improvement:Analyze achievement data (including MCAS and ACCESS), share results with stakeholders, and utilize findings to recommend targeted improvements to academic programs.Reporting:Coordinate the communication of assessment results to families, ensuring accessibility through translations and clear reporting systems.III.Professional Development & PersonnelPD Leadership:Chair the Professional Development Committee to design a cohesive yearly plan that aligns staff growth with district strategic goals and recertification needs.Mentoring & Induction:Develop and implement a comprehensive program to support the onboarding and success of new educators.Evaluation Support:Collaborate with Principals on teacher evaluations and maintain records of certification and evaluation cycles.PLC Management:Establish schedules and goal-setting processes for Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and oversee PLC leaders.IV.District Operations & Special ProgramsEL Program Supervision:Coordinate the district English Learner (EL) program, including staff supervision, scheduling, ACCESS assessment, and DESE compliance reviews.Grant Management:Identify and secure competitive grant funding; oversee the implementation and reporting for Title I and other federal/state programs.Strategic Collaboration:Assist in budgeting for instructional materials, participate in search committees, and represent the district in regional collaboratives (e.g., TEC, ACCEPT).Millis Public Schools does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, age, national origin, sexual orientation or disability.
