Job Description
Job Overview The Director of Electrical Department leads the Village of Rantoul's electric utility operations.The Director ensures the safe, reliable, and financially responsible delivery of electric service to residents, businesses, and municipal facilities.This position oversees system maintenance, engineering, customer service coordination, regulatory compliance, and long-term planning for a community with a mix of residential, commercial, and industrial electric demand. Responsibilities System Operations and Reliability Direct maintenance and repair of the Village's electric distribution system, including overhead line maintenance, new construction, and outage response Infrastructure Planning and Capital Projects Develop long-range plans for system upgrades, capacity improvements, and modernization Manage capital projects such as line extensions, substation improvements, and grid-resilience initiatives Evaluate and integrate renewable energy policies and applications consistent with Village programs Leadership and Workforce Management Supervise all members of the Electric Department Staff Promote a strong safety culture and ensure ongoing training and certification Establish a work-culture that encourages teamwork, idea-sharing, inclusive decision-making, and reliance upon each other for task completion Financial and Administrative Oversight Prepare and manage the electric division's operating and capital budgets Participate in rate-setting processes and cost-of-service analysis in coordination with the Finance Division Oversee procurement, contracts, and vendor relationships Coordinate with the Village's customer service office on billing, service requests, and utility policies Oversee substation operations, system switching, and preventive maintenance programs Ensure compliance with state and federal safety codes, environmental requirements, and utility regulations Coordinate mutual-aid support and emergency response during storms, major outages, and/or other critical incidents Requirements Significant experience in electric utility operations, engineering, or public-power management Strong knowledge of electric distribution systems, safety standards, and regulatory requirements Demonstrated leadership experience managing technical teams and complex infrastructure projects Communicates effectively through oral presentations, written reports, and discussions with executive level staff, co-workers, and outside vendors Maintains confidentiality and handle sensitive issues with discretion and sound judgment Thorough knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office Pay:$110,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year Benefits: Dental insurance Employee assistance program Employee discount Flexible spending account Health insurance Health savings account Life insurance Paid time off Retirement plan Tuition reimbursement Vision insurance Work Location:In person.
