Philander Smith University JOB DESCRIPTION - DIRECTOR OF FINANCIAL AID General Description/Primary Purpose The Financial Aid Director oversees the university's student financial assistance department, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, such as Title IV, while managing the awarding, disbursement, and reconciliation of grants, loans, and scholarships. The Financial Aid Director also leads staff, set strategic goals for enrollment and retention, and counsel students on financial aid options. This position reports to the Vice President of Enrollment Management. Classification: Full-Time - Professional Staff salary: $70,000 - $80,000 annually. Essential Job Duties Foster a positive, forward-thinking attitude and provide timely support for institutional requirements. Manage the full lifecycle of financial aid distribution, ensuring the accurate processing and reconciliation of all Title IV federal funds and institutional scholarships. Oversee all staff within the scope of the Financial Aid Office. Strategically manage and align staffing shcedules with peak demand periods to ensure optimal service levels. Respond to requests and inquiries professionally and efficiently. Uphold comprehensive knowledge of all federal and state regulations, ensuring consistent adherence to institutional financial aid policies, procedures, and statutes. Manage the student Work Study program. Work closely with Business Office and perform routine audits. Implement innovative technological solutions to refine processes and improve overall efficiency. Facilitate financial aid workshops and provide comprehensive financial literacy counseling to support student success. Oversee and maintain the Default Management Plan. Manage annual operating budgets. Proactively monitor regulatory changes by leveraging professional networks and organizations, including NASFAA, to maintain up-to-date expertise in financial aid. Engage in community outreach initiatives related to the university and higher education. Represent the department on various campus committees, collaborating with cross-functional teams to support institutional goals. Perform all job functions in a timely manner. Maintain NIMS training as required, including the IS-700.a and IS-IOO.HE tests. Accept other responsibilities and duties as assigned. Required Skills and Abilities: Ability to lead. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written. Ability to demonstrate problem-solving skills. Qualification Standards: Minimum Education Required Bachelor's Degree (Business, Finance, Higher Education Administration) plus 3 - 5 years of experience in higher education financial aid administration with progressive leadership. Master's Degree preferred. Working knowledge of PowerFAIDS, Banner, Colleague, and/or Jenzabar systems.
