FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH OF NORTH HOLLYWOOD DIRECTOR OF MUSIC/CHORAL CONDUCTOR POSITION Founded in 1924, First Christian Church of North Hollywood celebrates 102 years serving our community in Studio City and the greater San Fernando Valley. Our ideal candidate will be well-educated in choral and other styles of Christian music, an accomplished musician, and an excellent teacher and communicator. We seek a person who is Christian and interested in programming liturgical music in coordination with the Senior Pastor to create interesting and moving worship experiences. The ideal Music Director will be organized, personable, and able to interact with a large music community made up of both professional and non-professional musicians Title: DIRECTOR OF MUSIC / CHORAL CONDUCTOR Education: Bachelor’s degree in music, preferably choral conducting, from an accredited college or university, Master’s degree preferred Skills: Excellent choral and instrumental conducting skills; basic keyboard proficiency; strong community-building and leadership qualities; ability to teach some basic theory and vocal technique as part of rehearsal sessions; ability to balance fun and a sense of humor with the work of each rehearsal and performance Bonus Skills: Singing, piano soloing, playing guitar, composing original music, arranging music, playing pipe organ (Schantz Opus 1110/Rodgers hybrid) Experience: Three to five years experience at least as Director of Music or similar position Reports To: Senior Pastor and Staff Council Work Load: Approximately 15 hours per week, recognizing that additional hours may be required during busy seasons (Christmas and Easter). Weekly in-person responsibilities include choir rehearsal, Sunday service, and “Special Music” rehearsal (as needed). Salary : $40/hour for up to 15 hours per week, with additional hourly compensation during busy seasons, for estimated annual pay of $32,500, plus Paid Time Off. Start Date: Summer 2026 Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Music and Artistry Programming of all music for weekly services Research, selection and conducting of Choral Anthems, Choral Introits and Responses Rehearsal of choir once weekly for 90 minutes and prior to morning service Selection, coordination and rehearsal of weekly “Special Music” (usually before or after choir rehearsal) Coordination with organist and others of preludes, postludes, offertory and communion instrumental music Train and educate choir in choral technique and basic music theory, as needed Plan and prepare Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and 2-3 Easter services for Holy Week; two additional Christmas Eve services Produce an annual Christmas concert, with additional rehearsals as needed Hire additional musicians as needed (brass, bass, drums ,etc) and provide music charts Leadership, Organization and Administration Coordinate with senior pastor on weekly hymns and other music for all services Written delivery of music selections to church staff by noon each Tuesday Communicate with choir members electronically (e.g., weekly reminders/email) Oversee church music budget Oversee purchase of needed materials for choir: music, folders, robes, etc. Hire expert substitutes when needed when director of music is unavailable Aid organist in appropriation of subs as needed Attend worship committee meetings (1st Monday of each month) Schedule tuning and maintenance of instruments Maintain music library Provide list of performed music for the MLC License (music license for online broadcast) on a quarterly basis Collaboration and Community Coordinate with the online worship team and audio department Coordinate with and assist Children’s Music Director as needed Actively recruit, engage, and mentor our choirs and musicians Cultivate and maintain relationships with singers May include other duties as directed by the Senior Pastor (e.g., memorial services) How To Apply: Please
