Public Works Director The Role We are seeking a highly responsible Public Works Director to lead the comprehensive operations of a major municipal department. This is an director-level position requiring a strategic leader to oversee community-wide infrastructure, utilities, and large-scale capital improvement initiatives. Core Impact Areas Strategic Operations: Direct and coordinate all departmental divisions, including streets, sanitation, stormwater, and fleet maintenance. Utility Management: Manage all non-tax-supported public utility operations, including water treatment, distribution, and wastewater collection systems. Capital Infrastructure: Supervise the design and construction of capital improvement projects (CIP) and collaborate with consulting engineers. Environmental & Regulatory Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to federal and state regulations from agencies such as the FDEP, EPA, and SFWMD. Financial Oversight: Administer departmental operating and capital budgets while overseeing procurement and service contract negotiations. Professional Requirements Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Engineering, Business, or a related field; graduate-level education is preferred. Experience: Extensive leadership experience in public works or utilities administration at the director or senior management level. Technical Licensing: A valid Florida Driver’s License and a Florida Water Distribution System Operator License (minimum Level III) are required.
