Role Description This is a full-time, on-site role located in Miami, FL for a DOD - Government Heavy Freight Specialist. The specialist will be responsible for coordinating shipments of heavy freight for government-related projects, managing communications with government agencies and stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. Daily tasks include tracking and monitoring shipments, preparing necessary documentation, interfacing with local and federal government entities, and analyzing processes to enhance efficiency in freight operations. Qualifications Proficiency in Government Relations and working with Local Government entities Strong Communication Skills, both written and verbal, for engaging with stakeholders and agencies Well-developed Analytical Skills for problem-solving and process improvement Experience in handling freight within the Public Sector Knowledge of transportation logistics and government compliance standards is highly advantageous Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Public Administration, or a related field preferred Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and maintain attention to detail Coordinate, monitor, and supervise the movement of military cargo. Logistics Coordination: Plan and direct movement of cargo/personnel via air, rail, sea, and road. Compliance & Documentation: Ensure adherence to DOD, federal, and international regulations (including FDA/customs). System Utilization: Operate Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and government systems (e.g., SDDC, TEAMS, GFM, ATR) for tracking and booking. Negotiation & Rates: Secure cost-effective freight rates with carriers, 3PLs, and NVOCCs. Carrier Management: Schedule, dispatch, and monitor freight, managing relationships to ensure timely delivery. Support & Communication: Provide shipment status updates to DOD clients and stakeholders. Arrange and track shipments for domestic and international delivery. Procure cost-efficient transport methods. Prepare necessary shipping documentation. Manage claims and resolve any shipping issues. Ensure quality through freight inspection and record keeping.
