Job Description SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE The Driver II (CDL Transit Bus Driver) must have a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL C with Passenger endorsement). It is the driver’s responsibility to keep their license current. Driver II is responsible for operating the bus in a safe and efficient manner. Driver II will typically operate a CDL bus but may operate non-CDL buses as needed. Driver II will operate a route with trips assigned by dispatch in the order of said route and may receive cancelations and add-on trips throughout the day. Driver II is responsible for the safety and well-being of themselves, the passengers, pedestrians, bicyclists, and other drivers. Driver II must be able to assist passengers with various levels of physical, and mental abilities and personality types with good customer service skills. Driver II will be required to communicate with dispatch regarding the routes and passengers throughout the shift. Driver II will be required to do some work outside of route work, such as attending safety and training meetings. Driver II is required to clean the bus, participate in keeping the bus yard clean, and may participate in office cleaning. Driver II may be cross-trained in other job duties and maybe assigned those duties during slow times on route. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Provide safe and efficient transportation for the passengers of GET My Ride Public Transit System. Operate the buses on time according to the schedule. Pick up passengers on dispatched requests for transportation. Collect fare from the passengers. Fuel buses daily. Assist the passenger(s), which means getting out of the seat to assist passengers enter and exit the vehicle as far as the door to their building. Conduct a thorough pre-trip inspection of the vehicle prior to operation daily. Conduct a thorough post-trip inspection of the vehicle at the end of shift daily, including checking for damage. Report needed repairs and/or damage to management. Properly operate the lift, tie down wheelchairs and stow lose items safely. Properly care for equipment, such as a mobile tablet and its accessories. Complete physical paperwork daily as well as electronic forms. Clean buses daily; including interior cleaning and sanitizing and exterior cleaning at a wash bay. Reconcile trips with fare, including cash and fare media. Operate the buses activities, i.e. out-of-town routes, medical trips as needed (not often). Respond to medical emergencies and injuries to passengers in a manner consistent with GET My Ride Public Transit System Policies and Procedures. Participate in cleaning the office as needed. Keep yourself and others informed of work issues with quality communications. Be courteous and respectful towards passengers, fellow employees and people in the public. Regularly attend & participate in monthly safety meetings (may include Saturdays). Promote a positive work environment in the office and on the road. Work together to resolve issues and conflicts. Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent 1 year of transportation experience preferred Must provide a clean Motor Vehicle Record Must maintain a valid Nevada driver's license Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities An employee in this position must have the following knowledge, skills abilities upon application: Knowledge Knowledge of Commercial Driver Regulations. Knowledge of Assistance (ADA) Regulations. Knowledge of mapping software. Ability to learn and operate electronic tablets/phones. Knowledge of the layout of Elko County. Skills Providing safe, professional, supporting, and respectful transportation services to the public. Abilities Ability to follow directions from Dispatch. Ability to control the environment on their bus. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Appropriate use of time clock and time management. Ability to communicate effectively with the public, upholding ridership rules while maintaining excellent customer service. Ability communicate effectively; establish and maintain effective working relationships. To be flexible to cover the needs of the department. Ability to be part of a team and be self-directed and well-organized. Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative. To operate and maintain safe, cost-effective use of Elko County Transit’s reso
