Job Description
The E-911 Dispatcher is responsible for receiving emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatching police, fire, and EMS personnel, and providing critical communication support during emergency situations. This position requires the ability to remain calm under pressure, gather accurate information quickly, and coordinate emergency response services efficiently while ensuring public safety. Key Responsibilities: Answer incoming 911 and non-emergency calls promptly and professionally Obtain and document critical information from callers Dispatch police, fire, EMS, and other emergency personnel using computer-aided dispatch systems Monitor radio communications and maintain contact with field units Prioritize calls based on the severity and nature of emergencies Provide emergency medical and safety instructions to callers when necessary Maintain accurate records, logs, and incident reports Operate multi-line telephone systems, radios, and emergency communication equipment Coordinate with local agencies and emergency responders during critical incidents Remain calm and make sound decisions in high-stress situations Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required Previous dispatch, call center, customer service, or emergency communications experience preferred Strong communication, multitasking, and problem-solving skills Ability to type accurately and use computer systems efficiently Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed Must pass background check, drug screening, and required training/certifications Preferred Skills: Knowledge of emergency dispatch procedures and radio codes Experience with CAD systems and multi-agency communication CPR or Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certification preferred Strong attention to detail and situational awareness Work Environment: This position operates in a fast-paced emergency communications center and may involve exposure to stressful or emotionally challenging situations. Dispatchers must be able to remain composed and professional while handling high call volumes and emergency incidents.
