ELA/Social Studies (Humanities) Teacher (Anticipated) Needed Location: Shelburne Community School This position will remain open until filled. Shelburne Community School is seeking a full-time (1.0 FTE), ELA/Social Studies (Humanities) Teacher (Anticipated) to join our team for the 2026-27 school year. We are looking for a dedicated, reflective teacher with a passion for middle level education to support our students within a collaborative teaming environment. This position is critical to fostering a growth mindset and civic curiosity through an integrated humanities model while serving as a core mentor for students as a homeroom teacher. Primary Responsibilities Planning and instructing engaging, creative units for 7th/8th-grade students within an integrated humanities model. Tracking student learning through formative and summative assessments using a proficiency-based model. Facilitating homeroom and team meeting times, building strong relationships, and monitoring the holistic growth and goals of a core group of students. Facilitating personalized learning plans and guiding students throughout their academic journey. Collaborating with humanities colleagues and the broader teaching team to ensure instructional coherence. Utilizing technology to enhance instruction and engage 21st-century learners. Communicating proactively and collaboratively with families regarding student progress and classroom initiatives. The Ideal Candidate Will Possess Current Vermont Professional Educators License with a Middle Level ELA and/or Social Studies (5-9) endorsement. Strong content knowledge and experience in middle-level instruction with a developmental understanding of middle school students. Deep understanding of proficiency-based grading practices and curriculum standards. Proven ability to implement effective classroom management techniques and build a strong classroom community. Exceptional organizational skills, flexibility, a high-level problem-solving mindset, and a dedicated work ethic. Commitment to equitable instructional practices and a belief in a growth mindset. Ability to foster a welcoming, inclusive environment for all students and families.
