Electrical & Mechanical Inspector – Data Center Campus Job Description The Electrical & Mechanical Inspector will support a large, four-building data center campus, ensuring that all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing installations meet contract documents, quality standards, and applicable codes. This role focuses on detailed field inspections, quality assurance, and documentation throughout various phases of construction, culminating in turnover and commissioning support. Responsibilities Perform routine examinations and checks of ongoing construction work across four buildings at different phases to verify that all installations conform to contract documents and applicable standards. Verify that the quality of installation and execution for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems is maintained, including required testing, final follow-up checks, and correction of deficiencies. Ensure the contractor does not build upon or conceal non-conforming work by identifying issues early and confirming that all deficiencies are addressed before work progresses. Assess general contractor means and methods for compliance with the most stringent requirements of applicable global, national, and local standards, and immediately notify the owner of any deficiencies. Evaluate the final installed products to confirm they achieve the appropriate level of finish and are ready to proceed into the commissioning start-up phase. Verify that proper levels of protection are maintained for equipment and systems during construction to prevent damage or deterioration. Provide detailed evaluation of the installation of MEP equipment, systems, and rough-ins, including visual inspections of equipment and systems for defects or damage. Confirm that required access to installed products is available, such as access to mechanical valves, access doors, and required clearances for maintenance and operation. Perform visual observations of mechanical and electrical rough-ins to verify proper routing, terminations, and general workmanship. Assist in evaluating conduit installations for appropriate support, alignment, and overall clean and tidy appearance. Conduct SCCS, breaker settings, and arc flash label reviews to ensure compliance with design and safety requirements. Conduct NETA testing reviews, verifying that testing is properly performed, documented, and aligned with project specifications. Conduct FOD (Foreign Object Debris) inspections to maintain a safe and clean work environment and protect equipment and systems. Perform turnover services, including verifying that all inspection forms are complete, observation statuses are current, and quality documentation and observations are prepared for turnover to the commissioning team. Participate in and conduct final quality verification walks with the owner to confirm readiness for commissioning and project turnover. Collaborate with construction management and quality control teams to address issues, clarify requirements, and support successful project delivery on a data center campus. Essential Skills 5–10 years of experience in construction inspection, quality control, or construction management with a strong focus on electrical and mechanical systems. Demonstrated experience working on data center projects or similarly complex, mission-critical facilities. Strong focus on electrical and mechanical inspection, including MEP systems, rough-ins, and equipment installation. Hands-on experience with SCCS reviews, breaker settings reviews, and arc flash label verification. Experience reviewing NETA testing for electrical systems. Experience conducting FOD inspections in active construction environments. Proven ability to verify work against contract documents, drawings, and specifications. Ability to identify non-conforming work and ensure that deficiencies are corrected before subsequent work proceeds. Strong understanding of applicable global, national, and local codes and standards related to mechanical and electrical systems. Ability to prepare and maintain thorough inspection forms, observation logs, and quality documentation for turnover and commissioning. OSHA 10 certification (minimum). Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in MEP-focused quality assurance on large-scale construction projects. Experience supporting commissioning teams through detailed documentation and final quality verification walks.
