32145BR Job Title: Electrician Department: FS Maintenance Services Primary Campus: University of Kansas Lawrence Campus Job Description: 70% - Wiring: Lays-out, installs and repairs wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus and control equipment. Plans new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance and avoid hazardous and unreliable wiring consistent with job specifications and electrical codes. Works from diagrams, job specifications, or blueprints. Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles and installs electrical conduit, using tools such as hacksaw, pipe threader and conduit bender. Pulls wiring through conduit. Splices wire by stripping insulation from terminal leads with knife or pliers, twisting or crimping wires together and applying tape or terminal caps. Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment using hand tools. Installs and repairs distribution and control apparatus, such as switches, relays, circuit-breaker panels, fastening in place with screws, bolts, etc., using hand and power tools. Connects proper cables to equipment such as motors and installs grounding leads. Tests continuity of circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components, using test equipment such as ohmmeter, ammeter, megger and phase meter, etc. Observes functioning of equipment or electrical systems to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation or replacement. 25% - Other related duties: Previews, orders and otherwise obtains electrical materials and equipment. Completes work order paperwork.<
