Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is hiring an Electronics Engineering Technologist within the Engineering division. This position will support operations at the 88-Inch Cyclotron, a key experimental user facility for nuclear science and applied physics research. This is a hands-on engineering position. While assigned to the 88-Inch Cyclotron, independently, perform advanced technical support in electronics test, maintenance and development. Design, develop, test, evaluate, troubleshoot, and maintain complex electrical, electronic and electro-mechanical systems where the application of advanced sophisticated technological skills, scientific principles and mathematics are required. Parental bonding leave (for both mothers and fathers) Pet insurance You will: Design, build, integrate, and maintain complex analog, digital, mixed-signal, RF, and high-voltage electronic systems for research operations. Develop electrical schematics, engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation. Troubleshoot and repair electronic and electro-mechanical systems to the component level using advanced diagnostic instrumentation. Perform preventive maintenance, system upgrades, and infrastructure improvements for aging equipment and facilities. Use laboratory instrumentation and fabrication tools for testing, assembly, installation, calibration, and system validation. Collaborate with engineers and technical staff to develop, modify, and support commercial, experimental, and prototype systems. Develop test procedures, analyze system performance, and implement effective diagnostics using scientific and mathematical principles. Plan and organize technical support activities, materials, and project execution to meet operational goals. Ensure compliance with Environment, Health & Safety (ES&H) requirements and promote safe, inclusive, and collaborative workplace practices. Requirements: Electronics Engineering Technologist level 3: 4–6 years of experience providing advanced technical support in electronics testing, maintenance, and development. Strong knowledge of electronics, electro-mechanical systems, scientific principles, and applied mathematics. Proven ability to troubleshoot, repair, and calibrate complex electronic systems and instrumentation. Skilled in using advanced diagnostic equipment, laboratory instrumentation, and hand/power tools. Ability to independently solve complex technical problems using sound judgment, creativity, and innovation. Experience writing and interpreting technical procedures, specifications, and test documentation. Familiarity with engineering design, testing, and documentation practices. Ability to distinguish wiring and component color codes and safely work at heights, in confined spaces, and lift up to 50 lbs. In addition to the above, Electronics Engineering Technologist level 4: 6+ years of experience in advanced electronics testing, maintenance, development, and technical support. Desired skills/knowledge: An AS or BS degree in Electronics Technology / Electrical Engineering and / or FCC General Radio Operator License (prefer Radar Endorsement) or Society of Broadcast Engineering Certification (CSBE, CRBE) or Certified Electronics Technician (CET) or the equivalent in advanced formal military or industrial training in nuclear or radar technology is preferred. Provide technical guidance and hands-on training to junior staff in complex circuit analysis, troubleshooting, repair, and calibration. Experience with PLCs, TTL, ECL, CMOS, relays, and VHF/UHF/SHF microwave technologies. Lead small teams on assigned projects and technical tasks. Proficient in computer-aided electronics drafting/design documentation, networking fundamentals, MS Office, and Google Workspace. Strong planning, teaching, organizational, and technical writing skills. Knowledge of Protective Interlock Systems and radiation safety procedures. Additional information:
