Beck Way Warden, Washington 98857 Tel: 509 349-2366 FAX: 509 349-2367 Job Title: Elementary Special Education Life Skills Teacher (School Year 2026-2027) Date: 05-08-2026 Job Description DESCRIPTION: The primary role of an elementary special education life skills teacher is to maximize each student’s potential. This role focuses on teaching functional academics, communication, social-emotional, and daily living skills to support increased independence. The teacher develops and implements IEPs, monitors student progress, and collaborates with families, paraeducators, general education staff, and related service providers to ensure consistent supports and services. Classroom instruction and learning activities are highly structured and individualized, using evidence-based strategies, visual supports, assistive technology, and behavior supports to help students access learning in the least restrictive environment. SALARY RANGE: Certificated Salary Schedule BENEFITS: https://www.warden.wednet.edu/departments/human-resources QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement required (Special Education) Knowledge of IDEA, Washington State special education regulations, and IEP development and implementation to ensure compliance and monitor student progress. Skilled in working with students with disabilities in an integrated model with multiple staff. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with administrators, staff, students, and community agencies. Skilled in diagnostic assessment and instructional strategies for addressing learning and behavioral needs. Expertise and/or experience in behavior management to support student access to learning. Physical ability to lift and transfer up to approximately 60 pounds. Commitment to continuous professional growth and development. Collaboratively work with interdisciplinary teams and interagency teams. Awareness and appreciation of student diversity, with the ability to set appropriate social, academic, and behavioral expectations for individual students. Maintain a high level of confidentiality in all professional responsibilities. Understanding of Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) and ability to apply it across classroom and community settings. Skilled in using multiple assessment strategies and preparing students for Washington State Assessments or alternate assessments. Skilled in teaching self-determination and self-advocacy. Ability to design and implement rigorous, individualized programs for students with a range of disabilities from mild to significant.
