The Team You’ll Work With: The Mayor’s Office of Mass Engagement (OME) is responsible for strategizing, coordinating, and executing on engagement that reaches the masses of everyday New Yorkers. We engage New Yorkers in shaping policy outcomes, demystifying government, and ensuring that the government remains accountable to serving the people of this great City. The Problems You’ll Solve The Emergency Response Lead’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Support the Emergency Response team, including the Emergency Response Manager, Deputy Director, and First Deputy Commissioner, as needed. Participate in and assist the Emergency Response team in executing processes to respond to various types of emergency situations. Support the Emergency Response team with incoming and outgoing communications with elected officials and other community stakeholders around emergency situations. Supporting the Emergency Response Manager on interagency relief efforts for constituents affected by various types of emergencies. Respond to immediate needs as directed by the Director and Deputy Director of Emergency response, including but not limited to being on the scene for emergency situations, gathering information from other agencies about emergency situations, attending events, and providing rapid response support. Other duties as needed. About You: You are passionate about supporting people in times of crisis and can build trust, provide care, and assess the needs of people in distress. You can organize, especially organize resources, with an eye towards a sustainable, resilient response. You are an enthusiastic collaborator. You are familiar with basic digital tracking systems (Microsoft, Excel, AirTable) and/or have a willingness to learn. You have previous organizing experience, including as a volunteer. Special Assistant (MA)-MGRL - 0668A Minimum Qualifications A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above. Preferred Skills You can build and maintain a wide array of working relationships. - You can stay calm under pressure, including at public events, in case of emergencies. - You have knowledge of New York City government and emergency response units, which is a plus. Residency Requirement New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
