Job Description
Job Title: PGD Engineer – Solar Inverter Team (Engineer Level 2, 6–10 Years Experience) Job Description This role focuses on supporting and improving utility-scale solar inverter operations by applying advanced electrical engineering expertise and data-driven problem solving. The PGD Engineer will independently make technical decisions, lead process improvement initiatives, and serve as a primary technical liaison for solar inverter fleet operations. The position involves developing troubleshooting tools, performing root-cause analyses, and supporting field and control center teams to enhance reliability and performance across solar power generation assets. Responsibilities Apply diversified knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices to a broad range of assignments related to solar power generation and utility-scale inverters. Make independent decisions on engineering issues, technical approaches, and processes, requiring supervision only for high-level objectives and critical issues. Develop and refine detailed troubleshooting guides for top fault codes across all inverter technologies to support consistent and effective fault resolution. Build, organize, and maintain a comprehensive fault code database and Do Not Reset (DNR) lists to standardize responses to inverter events. Utilize AI tools and engineering principles to analyze datasets, synthesize information, and create effective troubleshooting guides and process improvements. Serve as the primary technical liaison between the Solar Inverter Fleet Team and other internal groups, acting independently on technical matters and recommendations. Complete process improvement assignments within broad objectives and limitations, identifying opportunities to streamline workflows and enhance operational performance. Interface with internal stakeholders and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) on technical matters related to individual projects, representing the engineering function in technical discussions and decisions. Support component failure rate analysis and contribute to the development of work plans to address reliability issues and improve fleet performance. Develop subject matter expertise in at least one inverter manufacturer’s technology, documentation, and failure modes. Conduct root-cause analysis (RCA) for equipment failures at solar sites, documenting findings and recommending corrective and preventive actions. Provide technical assistance to field technicians and control center operators in troubleshooting inverter and other solar plant issues. Support the development and implementation of countermeasures for recurring issues to reduce repeat failures and improve uptime. Assist in preparing responses to regulatory bodies for data requests related to solar inverter performance, events, and operational issues. Essential Skills Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or a bachelor’s degree in another engineering discipline with equivalent experience working with electrical systems. At least 5 years of engineering experience, with a strong focus on electrical engineering applications. Hands-on experience with utility-scale inverters and power electronics in a power generation or similar environment. Solid understanding of electrical systems, solar power generation, and inverter operation and protection. Experience performing root-cause failure analysis (RCA) and using structured methods to investigate equipment issues. Ability to analyze failure rates and equipment performance data to support reliability and maintenance planning. Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively and cross-functionally with operations teams, field technicians, and control center personnel. Demonstrated ability to work independently on technical matters, make sound engineering judgments, and drive tasks to completion. Proficiency in organizing and maintaining technical documentation such as fault code databases, troubleshooting guides, and DNR lists. Additional Skills & Qualifications Master’s degree in electrical engineering. At least 2 years of specific experience working with solar inverters. Six Sigma Green Belt certification, with experience applying process improvement methodologies. Experience using AI or advanced analytical tools to interpret engineering datasets and develop troubleshooting or process improvement solutions. Previous experience in operations support or a control center environment supporting power generation assets. Familiarity with utility-scale solar panel systems, fleet operations, and equipment performance moni
