Summary Statement Lead meaningful environmental education experiences that connect the Boise community with nature, sustainability, and lifelong learning. This role manages programs and operations at the Foothills Learning Center, Boise Urban Garden School, and other facilities while developing engaging educational opportunities, volunteer initiatives, and special events for participants of all ages and backgrounds. The position also supervises temporary and term-limited staff, including coordinating hiring processes, providing training, and evaluating performance and conduct. Essential Functions Performs highly complex and specialized tasks requiring considerable judgement, independent analysis and decision making. Provides leadership, coaching and mentoring to a subordinate group. Manages and delivers environmental education and volunteer programs for youth, adults and families. Establishes goals and objectives that meet relevant departmental and city initiatives. Conducts regular assessments to ensure relevant, high-quality and mission-based activities. Creates curriculum, event-based lessons, community programs, volunteer offerings, special events and presentations to meet the changing needs of a variety of audiences. Develops and administers all aspects of a program, from communications to schedules to invoices. Develops event schedules and coordinates with speakers and partner organizations to ensure excellent delivery and service. Serves as the day-to-day contact for scheduling field trips, programs facility rental and reservations. Ensures compliance with all relevant departmental policies and procedures. Manages facility and education budgets. Coordinates maintenance of the facility with internal partners to identify and solve issues related to buildings and grounds. Supervises and manages staff, including initiating a hiring process, providing training, and evaluating performance and conduct. Ensures adequate staffing resources. Markets educational and volunteer programs through various traditional and online media. Coordinates and markets educational and volunteer programs and develops marketing goals in coordination with internal and external partners. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training Bachelor's degree in environmental education, environmental studies, education, natural resource management or a related field, and six years of professional outdoor environmental education experience leading youth and adults, including one year of experience in a lead or supervisory capacity, or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education. Knowledge of: Outdoor environmental programming and education practices. Environmental studies, including physical, chemical, and biological sciences. Computer usage including related software. Ability to: Develop and implement large-scale education programs targeted to diverse audiences. Solve problems effectively. Manage budgets and contracts. Communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance. Perform all essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation.
