Job Description
Source One is a consulting services company and we’re currently looking for the following individual to work as a consultant to an autonomous vehicle company in Foster City, CA. Title: Equipment Engineer - Service (Contract) Pay: $67.65/hr W-2 plus benefits Location: Fully onsite in Foster City, CA Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM Travel: Up to 20% to local service and testing sites, including Hayward, CA In this role, you’ll support the planning, development, deployment, and sustainment of equipment across vehicle service centers. You will help scale service operations by developing OEM-level tooling, fixtures, and processes that improve serviceability, ergonomics, efficiency, and repair quality. You’ll work cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and service teams to take equipment solutions from concept through implementation. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer with strong mechanical aptitude, experience designing tooling and fixtures, and the ability to thrive in fast-paced product development and manufacturing environments. Responsibilities Develop and implement automotive service and assembly equipment, tooling, and fixtures. Identify opportunities for tooling and equipment improvements by collaborating with cross-functional teams on process and operational needs. Define tooling, automation, and equipment requirements to support service and manufacturing operations. Evaluate part and assembly designs for ergonomics, tooling access, manufacturability, serviceability, and repair feasibility. Design and prototype hand tools, jigs, fixtures, lift assists, and automated systems using CAD tools. Manage external manufacturing and automation partners supporting equipment development and deployment. Partner with internal and external suppliers to resolve ergonomic, tooling, and assembly-related issues. Maintain equipment specifications, documentation, and preventive maintenance plans. Troubleshoot and resolve tooling and equipment-related issues. Develop time and cost analyses to support process improvements and cost-reduction initiatives. Travel up to 20% to local service and testing sites as needed. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience. 2–4 years of experience in mechanical engineering or a similar role within a product design or manufacturing environment. Experience developing automation specifications, tooling and fixture designs, and lift assists/industrial manipulators. Proficiency with CAD tools; experience with CATIA, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and SAP is a plus. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Experience presenting cost analyses for new processes and equipment.
