Position Overview The Equipment Operator is responsible for executing excavation and construction work safely and efficiently using heavy equipment. This role is essential to project execution and requires strong technical ability, attention to detail, and communication with the field team. Position Details Department / Crew Field Operations Reports To Foreman Employment Status Full-Time Classification Non-Exempt Key Responsibilities Operate heavy equipment including excavators, loaders, and related machinery Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance checks Execute work according to plans, grade, and direction from Foreman Maintain awareness of surroundings and job site safety Coordinate with crew members to complete tasks efficiently Identify and report equipment or site issues immediately Support overall job site productivity and workflow Assist with general labor tasks when needed Identify and communicate issues early to support efficient project execution Qualifications Basic Qualifications 3+ years of equipment operating experience Ability to read and understand basic plans and grades Strong understanding of safe equipment operation Preferred Qualifications Experience in excavation, grading, or underground utilities GPS machine control experience Core Competencies Safety Awareness Technical Skill Communication Reliability Teamwork Physical Requirements Ability to sit for extended periods while operating equipment Ability to enter and exit equipment safely Work Environment Outdoor construction sites in varying conditions Additional Information Operators are expected to work as part of a team and support job completion beyond equipment operation when needed.
