Job Description
Company Description Mule City Specialty Feeds, located near Raleigh, North Carolina, is a leading producer of custom animal feeds in the Southeast. Established in 1956, the company specializes in creating tailored nutritional solutions for horses, cows, pigs, and chickens. With decades of expertise, Mule City Specialty Feeds is committed to delivering high-quality, innovative products that meet the unique dietary needs of every animal. Engagement: Contract / consulting (structure open — see below) Location: Mostly on-site at our mill in Benson, NC What we're hiring you to do Lead the implementation of a cloud-based ERP at Mule City, end to end: discovery, configuration, data migration from filePro, integration with our POS hardware, user training, go-live support, and stabilization. You'll be on-site most of the time, working alongside the owner, mill operators, counter staff, and bookkeeping. This is a hands-on role — we need someone who can sit at the counter to understand how a charge ticket actually gets written, then go configure the system to match (or push back when our process needs to change). Scope at go-live Accounting, AR, and GL — including our existing pricing tiers (retail, wholesale, and several contract tiers), monthly interest on AR balances with customer-specific exceptions, payment application logic, and clean financial reporting. Inventory and purchasing — multiple units of measure (bagged, bulk, per-pound), reorder points, vendor management, and accurate cost roll-ups. We have ~400 active SKUs across grains, custom mixes, branded feeds, supplements, health products, equipment, pet food, and bedding. Manufacturing — BOMs and work orders for our proprietary feed formulas, ingredient consumption, finished-goods receipts, and accurate manufacturing cost capture. Today, finished feed inventory is not always tracked correctly when production completes; fixing this is a priority. POS / retail counter — fast counter transactions, charge sales, customer lookup, and integration with the rest of the system so a counter sale immediately updates inventory and AR. Likely Phase 2 (out of scope for go-live, but worth knowing) Grain storage accounts and bushel-month billing Customer portal / online ordering Advanced reporting and dashboards beyond the standard module reports Data migration We have decades of history in filePro: roughly 5,000 customers, 400 products, 845,000 invoice headers, and 2 million invoice lines. Not all of it needs to come over — we'll work with you on what's essential for operational continuity vs. what can stay in an archived snapshot. Experience migrating off legacy/DOS-era systems is a meaningful plus. Must-have qualifications Multiple full-cycle implementations of a cloud ERP — Odoo strongly preferred ; experience with NetSuite, Acumatica, SAP Business One, or Dynamics 365 Business Central also welcome Deep configuration experience in Manufacturing (BOMs, work orders, MRP), Inventory, Accounting/AR, and POS modules Track record of data migration from legacy ERPs into a cloud system Comfortable training non-technical staff and writing simple, usable SOPs Self-directed and able to work primarily on-site with our team Nice to have Experience with feed mills, grain elevators, co-ops, agribusiness, or any small-batch manufacturer with custom formulas Familiarity with multi-UOM inventory (bagged vs. bulk, per-pound vs. per-unit pricing) Light development capability (Odoo Studio, Python/XML for Odoo, or scripting for data prep) Comfort with SQL or working with extracted data for reconciliation How we'd like to engage We're open on engagement structure — please propose what fits the work and your practice. We're equally willing to consider: Hourly with a not-to-exceed budget per phase Fixed-bid by phase (discovery / config / migration / go-live / hypercare) A blend (e.g., fixed-bid for go-live, hourly for hypercare and Phase 2) Whatever you propose, we'd like clear deliverables and checkpoints so both sides know when a phase is done.
