Executive Chef — Burlington Beer Works Burlington, North Carolina Full-Time | Leadership Role About Burlington Beer Works Burlington Beer Works is an independently owned brewery and hospitality concept in historic downtown Burlington, NC. We are building a destination that combines thoughtfully brewed beer, elevated yet approachable food, craft cocktails, and genuine community connection. Our kitchen philosophy centers on: seasonal and locally sourced ingredients, scratch cooking, innovative yet approachable menus, and exceptional hospitality. We are seeking an Executive Chef to help shape the culinary identity of Burlington Beer Works and build a kitchen culture grounded in creativity, consistency, accountability, and collaboration. This is an opportunity for a passionate culinary leader to help build something meaningful from the ground up. Position Summary The Executive Chef will lead all culinary operations for Burlington Beer Works, including menu development, kitchen leadership, food quality, systems implementation, financial performance, and team culture. The ideal candidate is both a creative chef and a strong operator — someone who can execute high-quality food consistently while developing systems that support a profitable and sustainable business. This role requires strong leadership, emotional intelligence, organizational discipline, and a passion for hospitality. ResponsibilitiesCulinary Leadership Develop and execute seasonal menus aligned with the Burlington Beer Works brand Create dishes that pair naturally with brewery offerings and craft beverages Maintain high standards for food quality, consistency, and presentation Develop specials, beer dinners, collaborative events, and tasting experiences Source and incorporate local and regional ingredients whenever possible Kitchen Operations Oversee all back-of-house operations and daily kitchen execution Build and maintain prep systems, recipe standards, and operational procedures Ensure smooth service execution during high-volume periods Manage inventory, ordering, receiving, and vendor relationships Maintain health, sanitation, and food safety standards Financial Management Manage food cost, labor cost, and kitchen profitability Assist ownership in forecasting and budgeting Analyze menu performance and optimize menu engineering Reduce waste and improve operational efficiency Team Development Recruit, train, mentor, and retain kitchen staff Foster a positive, professional, and collaborative kitchen culture Lead by example during prep and service Conduct performance evaluations and coaching Create systems that support growth and accountability Collaboration Work closely with ownership, brewery leadership, and front-of-house management Participate in marketing initiatives, community events, and collaborations Contribute to the overall vision and long-term growth of the business QualificationsRequired 5+ years of kitchen leadership experience Experience managing high-volume service Strong understanding of food cost, labor management, and kitchen systems Proven leadership and team development experience Strong organizational and communication skills Passion for hospitality and guest experience Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed Preferred Scratch kitchen experience Farm-to-table or seasonal menu experience Brewery, gastropub, or beverage-pairing experience Experience opening or scaling restaurant concepts Culinary degree or formal culinary training Familiarity with North Carolina food and beverage culture What We’re Looking For We are looking for someone who: thrives in a collaborative environment, values consistency as much as creativity, can build systems without losing soul, and wants to grow with a long-term hospitality concept.
