Executive Director About the Company Mission-driven organization advancing racial equity in media & journalism Industry Non-Profit Organization Management Type Non Profit Founded 2022 Employees 1-10 Specialties journalism democracy higher education and hbcus About the Role The Company is seeking an Executive Director for its Center for Journalism and Democracy. The successful candidate will be a strategic, mission-driven leader with a strong background in management, fundraising, and program development. This role is pivotal in advancing the Center's mission to support historically informed investigative journalism, particularly in the context of multiracial democracy, press freedom, and racial justice. The Executive Director will work closely with the Founding Director to translate the Center's vision into action, overseeing a growing team, managing multimillion-dollar budgets, and cultivating strategic partnerships. The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of senior leadership experience, a proven track record in high-growth or entrepreneurial environments, and a deep understanding of the values and practices of journalism, democracy, and racial equity. Key responsibilities for the Executive Director include providing day-to-day leadership, setting and tracking strategic goals, and ensuring the financial sustainability of the Center. The role also involves representing the Center in various communities, particularly with HBCUs, media organizations, and funders, and promoting a culture of inclusivity, collaboration, and high performance. The ideal candidate will be a skilled communicator and collaborator, with the ability to work effectively with a visionary Founder, and will have experience in establishing strategic partnerships across different sectors. While direct journalism experience is preferred, it is not required, but a familiarity with the field and a passion for its values is essential. The Executive Director will be instrumental in shaping the next chapter of the Center's national impact, leading its transition into an established, influential institution, and ensuring that its work in defending and advancing pro-democracy journalism is matched by the urgency of its fundraising efforts.
