Position Overview The Fiber Optics Wiring Instructor will lead classroom and lab-based training for students pursuing careers in fiber-optic communications and data infrastructure.This role includes teaching fundamental theory, hands-on splicing and termination, testing procedures, and preparing students for Fiber Optic Association (FOA) certification exams.The ideal candidate combines technical expertise with strong instructional skills and the ability to connect with justice-involved learners in a supportive, structured environment.Core Curriculum Topics The instructor will teach foundational skills consistent with entry-level fiber-optic technician standards, including:Fundamentals of fiber-optic communication systems Fiber types, cabling, and connectors Splicing and termination techniques (fusion and mechanical) Optical loss, testing, and troubleshooting Cable management, routing, and protection methods System layout and installation best practices Safety protocols and industry compliance standards Preparation for FOA certification exams Key Responsibilities Deliver both classroom and hands-on instruction in fiber-optic wiring.Demonstrate safe use of tools, testers, and splicing equipment.Create and maintain lesson plans, presentations, and assessment materials.Lead labs using industry-standard tools and testing instruments (OTDRs, power meters, cleavers, etc.).Support student progress and mastery through feedback and individualized coaching.Apply de-escalation, restorative, and trauma-informed teaching techniques with justice-impacted participants.Track attendance, grades, and certification outcomes in alignment with program goals.Qualifications ? Minimum 3 years of industry experience in fiber-optic installation, telecommunications, or structured cabling.? Prior instructor or technical trainer experience preferred.? Knowledge of FOA standards, NABCEP competencies, and current wiring codes.? Proficiency with splicing, testing, and troubleshooting tools.? Strong communication, patience, and classroom management skills.? Experience working with formerly incarcerated or re-entry populations highly valued.? FOA or ETA certification preferred but not required.?
