Job Description
Job Summary : Performs manual and equipment-based work supporting the maintenance and operation of mosquito control impoundments and related structures. Works under supervision to ensure proper upkeep, vegetation control, and safe operation of equipment in field environments. Essential Job Functions Field Operations & Maintenance Operate equipment and perform manual labor for maintenance of impoundments and structures Load and transport fill, rubble, and materials to job sites Level and repair erosion and damaged areas on dikes Assist with construction and general maintenance tasks Vegetation & Chemical Control Remove and treat invasive and exotic vegetation along dikes and ditches Apply herbicides and chemicals in accordance with safety guidelines Read and follow chemical labels and application instructions Equipment Operation & Safety Safely operate, maintain, and perform minor repairs on field equipment Participate in safety training, including SDS and chemical safety programs Operate heavy equipment on a temporary, emergency, or trainee basis PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires prolonged standing and walking; frequent bending, kneeling, squatting, and reaching above the shoulders; use of both hands and fingers; and very frequent lifting up to 50 pounds with frequent lifting over 30 pounds. The employee must have good vision and hearing, with or without correction, and be capable of performing strenuous labor in and around water control structures. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS AND WORK HAZARDS: Work is performed primarily outdoors in varying and adverse weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, humidity, rain, lightning, and exposure to saltwater environments. The position involves regular exposure to heavy and light equipment, pesticides, herbicides, and environmental hazards such as insects, snakes, spiders, wasps, ants, bees, alligators, and toxic plants. Indoor duties are occasionally required for meetings, scheduling, and documentation. Employees must adhere to all safety protocols and use required protective gear appropriate to the task. SAFETY EQUIPMENT & PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE): Employees are required to adhere to all safety protocols and utilize appropriate safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) provided to ensure a safe working environment. Specific requirements include: Mandatory PPE: Employees must wear designated PPE, which may include safety goggles, gloves, hard hats, hearing protection, and respiratory masks, depending on the tasks performed. Safety Training: All employees will receive training on the proper use and maintenance of safety equipment and PPE to minimize risks and ensure compliance with safety regulations. Inspection and Maintenance: Employees are responsible for regularly inspecting their PPE for wear and tear, and reporting any damaged equipment to their supervisor for replacement. Emergency Equipment: Familiarity with the location and use of emergency equipment, such as fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and eyewash stations, is required.
