Compensation Overview The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards. Salary Range $186,900.00 - $308,300.00 Target Openings 1 What Is the Opportunity? This position reports into the Global Practice Lead. Working on behalf of the Specialty Practice, the incumbent is responsible for the strategies which provide for profitability, growth and retention of the assigned specialty practice within defined regions consistent with Middle Market objectives. Other responsibilities include implementation of underwriting execution where specialization is critical, and to create, influence and engage key distribution. Field Specialty MDs will have a dual reporting into the Business Unit RVP and this role. Responsible for effective collaboration with regional leadership team to achieve Business Insurance objectives. What Will You Do? Strategy and Business Results: In partnership with local leadership, and in accordance with specialized industry and practice, develops and executes strategic business plans and sets annual plan. Jointly accountable for regional profit and loss results within the assigned regions. Responsible for monitoring field execution for the line or industry segment. Works with business and local field leadership to establish and adjust execution strategies on an ongoing basis in response to financial and operational results. Will work in concert with the BI Business Center leadership to ensuring excellence in setting and achieving performance and underwriting standards. Underwriting and Pricing: Maintains appropriate specialization and awareness of industry trends including attending specialized industry forums, industry boards or bureaus. Jointly accountable with local leadership for the results of the most complex, at risk or hard to close deals as needed for the specialty practices. Informs product strategy for designed line/industry segment. Participate in Portfolio CUREs, assessment of the line/industry, strategic direction. Provide assistance in obtaining corporate support for underwriting needs required in assigned jurisdictions. Talent Management: Has an active and collaborative partnership with Business Unit RVP and HR around recruiting plans and staff development in order to attract and retain top talent. Works closely with leaders on developing bench strength for key positions. Staff management functions include, but not limited to, coaching, training, developing and performance management feedback in a supportive, team oriented, collaborative manner. Builds and maintains valued internal business partnerships within Business Insurance, the Enterprise, and external constituencies as appropriate. Distribution and Sales Management: Will engage key distribution agents and specialists directly for the specialty practice on behalf of Travelers. Effectively collaborates with local leadership on Distribution and Agency Management to optimize production results within the Specialty Practice Models, promotes and inspires behaviors inherent to a successful consultative marketing / sales culture.
