Job Description
Summary : Assists all First Operations staff in Cutting, Grinding, and Shotblast in general operations and set-ups of laser, plasma cutting machines and all other First Operations equipment. The First Operations SME reports to the Engineering Manager. Essential Duties & Responsibilities :Studies blueprints, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements. Selects program if available or programs functions to create a part per blueprint by selecting fields to enter part and tool set-ups considering tools needed, tolerances, material type, quantity and resources available. Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent cutting. Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on cutting machines as necessary. Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media. Runs trial to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed data control. Runs cutting machines, including but not limited to, prepping parts, loading parts, starting and observing machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, adjusting controls, and unloading parts. Grinds, files, and sands machined parts as needed. Cleans cut parts as needed. Performs first-piece and in-process inspection by checking dimensions of part per blueprint using calipers, micrometers, indicators, and tape measure. Inspects parts according to C=0 chart. Completes inspection form. Assists in setting up cutting machines by retrieving and/or loading material onto machine worktable using fork truck and/or overhead crane. Unloads processed parts and part skeleton off worktable after processing. Lifts off finished parts and places parts into baskets. Monitors machine visually and audibly to ensure equipment is operating properly. With assistance, activates controls to cut workpiece. Performs routine preventative maintenance and general repairs on machines as required. Completes maintenance log. Performs other duties as assigned. Supervisory Duties :This position may direct entry-level cutting positions in set-up and training. It may require occasional supervisory responsibility in the absence of the Teamleader. Education & Experience :High school diploma or general education degree (GED), Two years of experience at OCI using CNC Technology, Laser-Cutting Technology, and overhead cranes required. Must have been a proven A operator with nothing more than an active verbal warning on record. Language Skills :Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with vendors and employees of organization. Math Skills :Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, and volume. Reasoning Skills :Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations :The position requires the employee to successfully complete the forktruck training session and hold a valid forktruck license.
