Job Description
Patterson is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Fleet Driver III to join our Transportation & Logistics team within our Transportation & Logistics department. In this role, you will play a critical part in supporting Patterson’s dental and animal health customers by ensuring the accurate, timely, and secure transportation of products between our distribution centers and customer locations. As a senior-level driver, you will operate company vehicles—primarily medium to heavy-duty trucks—adhering to all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Patterson’s internal safety and quality standards. You will be responsible for planning and executing daily delivery routes, loading and unloading dental and animal health consumables, equipment, and technology, and verifying that all products are handled with care to maintain product integrity. You will complete all required shipping and delivery documentation, including manifests, delivery logs, and electronic records, using Patterson’s routing and inventory systems. As a Fleet Driver III, you will often serve as a lead or subject-matter resource to other drivers, helping to mentor new team members on safe driving practices, route optimization, and customer service expectations. This position requires consistent, professional interaction with customers and internal teams. You will represent Patterson at customer sites, ensuring a positive delivery experience, addressing basic questions about shipments, and escalating issues to the appropriate internal contact when necessary. You will collaborate closely with dispatchers, warehouse staff, and sales and service teams to coordinate schedules, respond to urgent delivery needs, and support special transportation requests, including time-sensitive or high-value equipment deliveries. Safety and compliance are central to this role. You will conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, promptly report maintenance or safety concerns, and follow all DOT and company-compliant hours-of-service and recordkeeping requirements. You will be expected to operate material-handling equipment such as pallet jacks and forklifts where needed, secure loads appropriately, and follow proper lifting and handling techniques. In addition, you will assist in maintaining a clean, organized vehicle and may help support warehouse operations during downtime, including staging outgoing shipments and checking incoming freight. Aligned with Patterson’s supportive, inclusive, and innovative culture, the Fleet Driver III will work closely with a collaborative transportation team that values communication, reliability, and continuous improvement. You will be encouraged to share route insights, safety observations, and ideas that improve efficiency and service quality. This position offers the opportunity to grow within a market-leading company that serves healthcare professionals and contributes to better patient and animal health outcomes through reliable and high-quality logistics. The ideal candidate brings strong driving experience, excellent attention to detail, and a commitment to customer service. You should be comfortable working independently on the road, managing time and priorities across multiple stops, while also functioning as a reliable team member who supports colleagues and lives Patterson’s values every day. This role may require early morning starts, occasional overtime, and working in varying weather conditions while loading, unloading, and delivering product. Patterson provides training on our systems, equipment, and processes to help you succeed and advance within our transportation network.
