Summary Statement Lead the day-to-day operations of our Fleet Services Division shop facilities, supervising a team of skilled vehicle technicians and ensuring efficient, high-quality service. In this role, you’ll balance hands-on mechanical expertise with leadership and administrative responsibilities - coordinating workflow, supporting team development, and helping maintain reliable fleet performance. You’ll partner with division leadership while working with a high degree of independence, making decisions that keep operations running smoothly and safely. Licensing And Other Requirements Valid state-issued driver's license. Special Requirements Applicants Must Be Able To Pass City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation Driving Record Check Boise Police Department Criminal Justice Information System Background Check (BPD CJIS) Drug Free Workplace: In accordance with the City of Boise Drug Free Workplace Regulation, this position is designated as safety sensitive and is subject to testing requirements including Post Offer Applicant Testing, Random Testing, Reasonable Suspicion, Post - Accident, etc. Applicants will be required to submit to screening for illegal drug use prior to hire. Appointment to this position is contingent upon a negative pre-employment drug test. Persons in this position must have a CDL that can handle a gross combination weight rating of 26,001 or more pounds inclusive of the towed unit with a gross vehicle weight rating of more than 10,000 pounds. Essential Functions Performs the full range of duties with appropriate managerial review, including hiring, evaluating, promoting, and assigning duties. Corrects inappropriate actions or behavior through communication and coaching. Initiates discipline or termination as needed, and oversees employees or a group. Schedules, assigns and approves repairs performed by technicians on automobiles and equipment used by local municipalities. Develops short- and long-term scheduling of customers. Guides and supports staff or provides direct customer support for incoming work, diagnosis and determining services required. Explains the work required and the course of repair with customers. Generates repair requests in the fleet management system. Performs preventative maintenance services on vehicles or equipment per manufacturers' specifications or the City of Boise requirements. Conducts safety inspections of automobiles or equipment. Performs in-depth repair of vehicle systems as identified through preventative maintenance inspections or as required due to vehicle or equipment failure. Diagnoses and corrects problems. Repairs, rebuilds or replaces components utilizing special tools specific to the mechanic trade. Performs fabrication and welding repairs on vehicles and equipment. Performs administrative and clerical duties. Monitors repair orders and procedures for consistency and accuracy. Verifies and approves invoices and accounts payable items. Assists City of Boise departments with vehicle or equipment procurement and disposal. Interprets purchasing regulations, policies and procedures. Serves as a customer service consultant and writes estimates for repairs on vehicles or equipment and coordinates resolution. Serves as a primary staff member in pulling and distributing preventative maintenance reporting from the fleet management information system.
